Mixed signals on Rodrygo and I haven't heard any links to anyone else that is as good as Diaz. Have my reservations about Rodrygo at the price quoted (as I've posted about elsewhere) but I'm not aware of alternatives mooted that are even in his ballpark.
Assuming Elliott, Chiesa and Nunez all go, Wirtz can't play as a 9, and the young lad on the left doesnt start to get more minutes. It's not ideal obviously, but we have options when you consider Salah is guaranteed most games, with Frimpong in reserve. Ideally its Diaz or Rod, but we'll see what happens. Just depends what we do. If we get rodrygo, he's a guaranteed starter. If we get fofana or another winger, you'd expect gakpo to start.
Still don't get why this makes team or financial sense if we sell to a CL competitor.

Agree. And it's not impossible that Gakpo starts even if Diaz stays. It's the ability to give different looks and mitigate for potential injuries or loss of form that I'm concerned about.
Worst
We sold Mané to them as well. I really think this move makes a lot of sense for us economically and from a future planning sense. Hopefully, it does not cause any near-term issues.
I assume that we have a replacement lined up, but worst case:
- Wirst plays on the left from time-to-time (we know he can be effective from there);
- Rio gets time and his approach is very direct, not unlike Diaz;
- with Kerkez, Slot changes our approach from the left;
- and, if we end up stuck with Nunez, we can let him create some havoc out there sometimes.
