Liverpool related transfer speculation

1. Doubt Endo would've come on until the 88th min had Frimpong not felt something, Chiesa got 10 mins, didn't get off the bench at Wembley, was excluded from the Asian tour and couldn't start over 2 teams against Bilbao so I'd say the evidence is far from there.

2. I wasn't complaining about him, I was complaining about the time we've wasted pursuing certain players. Our business should be done by now yet we're still 3 players short. The balance of the squad is a total sham which is taking a toll on the balance of our play.

3. Then let them be dickheads, we should take the hint and move on.

4. Yes, I'd still like to keep our PL winning CB partnership. Maybe if his contract was sorted before yesterday, he wouldn't be playing like his head was elsewhere?

Not much time left now. 2 weeks to find a CB, CF and DM.

Squad is being sold short yet again, we have 21 senior players.......3 of them will play about 8 minutes combined this season in Endo, Harvey and Chiesa, another 2 will spend about 83 weeks injured in Gomez and Bradley, and since Kostas is on his way out, we may as well not bother including him. So technically I make that 15 reliable senior players Arne will rotate with.

We've wasted almost 6 weeks chasing Wirtz and Isak & the lanky fucker is still no closer to joining.

& Still no closer to tying up Ibou.
Well Endos already played 36 mins after 1 game so……

Chiesa played 15 minutes!

Where's all this talk about us needing defensive midfielder come from?

That just isn't going to happen & nor should it. After Isak & Guehi we need another attacker.

I'd say we need a DM over another attacker (if we sign Isak).

Ekitike can play deep and wide, and we have Chiesa, we have plenty of versatile options who can score goals, even if we have to makeshift it a bit here and there.

We need a DM. We missed Grav, but I don't think he's the complete answer.

I think we would be fine without a DM, if slot actually used endo as DM more.

The issue is he isn't though, he'll run Macca and Grav into the ground when neither are natural DMs and I think we'll see more and more that there's a fundamental issue there, it became more obvious as last season went on.

They're all good players btw, but the balance was wrong last season and we've now added two fullbacks who defensively aren't quite there yet and who are very attack minded. So of course it looks worse, we're sacrificing too much defensively and the balance has tipped too much towards us being more lightweight and overstocked with offensive players.

If Slot thinks possession can take off the heat, he needs to show his teams can dominate games for more than 30 mins.

Then what's the point of keeping endo?

We can't replace the entire starting xi and bench in 1 window. Endo (if used) is more than capable enough, and it's entirely on slot to use him.

Our depth is much much worse up top and at CB. DM at least we've got 2-3 players who can play there. Left wing we've got gakpo and Rio. Striker we've got Hugo.

Im getting the worrying feeling that slot just doesn't want a proper DM. I don't understand why but that's how he's coming across to me. Adam Wharton would be a great solution to that problem but i'm HOPING bajcetic will be used as cover for gravy this season once he is fully fit.

Yeah I don't want Bajcetic to go out on loan again. Either sell him or try to fix him like Chiesa.

I think it depends on the definition of a “proper DM”, doesn’t it?

If we’re a possession based team then we probably don’t need a physical, tackling monster but we do need someone that can retain possession in tight spaces and get progress the ball either by passing or driving past opposition players and they also need to be smart, in that they can read the game and know where to position themselves to snuff out opposition attacks.

If absolutely everyone’s piling forward, someone has to take charge of holding defensive position (which I thought was Endo speciality) even if it’s just to get in the way.

Fuck that guy.

Get Wharton next year

That was the spurious rumour - that Wharton wants to spend another year at Palace they move to a bigger team next year - and we’re in the mix.

Man Utd apparently looking at him as Baleba is too expensive.

Bournemouth are set to sign Ben Doak from Liverpool in a £25million deal.

The Athletic previously reported that a deal was close with the south-coast club moving ahead of several top-flight rivals to try and seal a move for the 19-year-old Scotland international.

The transfer is expected to go through on Monday after he underwent a medical on Sunday with Doak becoming Bournemouth’s fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic and defenders Adrien Truffert and Bafode Diakite.

He would also go some way to replacing Dango Ouattara after the forward completed a club-record £37million move to Brentford on Saturday.

In turn Doak will follow Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher and Jarell Quansah in leaving Liverpool in a significant summer of change at Anfield.

Doak joined Liverpool from Celtic as a 16-year-old in March 2022 for a fee of £600,000 and spent last season on loan at Championship club Middlesbrough, registering three goals and seven assists in 24 appearances.

In total Doak has made 10 senior appearances for the Merseyside club.

Bournemouth began their season with defeat at Liverpool on the season’s opening day and are next in action against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 23.

Wharton stagnated last season as he was seemingly carrying an injury but on the evidence of the game against Chelsea yesterday he looks ready to kick on this season.
He looks like he could become a top player

Yeah - give him a season - then pounce - hopefully he has a release clause 😉

It is strange - Bajcetic has all the makings to be an absolute baller of a DM. Why not just keep him around as a backup to Macca and Grav?

Edit - unless I'm reading it all wrong and that's exactly what's going to happen

I don’t think he wants to stay, not sure whether Slot actually rates him, possible an attitude issue and he’s coming across as a sicknote that makes Thiago and Kieta look like admantium boned, healing factored mutants.

I’m not sure Badger and Calvin Ramsay are actually real people anymore.

Both Wharton and Baleba will be available next summer. Until then I'm guessing its the options we currently have in the squad. Bajcetic will leave I reckon. Doesn't seem to feature in our plans.

i heard someone on a podcast the other day call him badger 🤨

He's actually been playing for the U21s in the pre-season games. Even scored in their final pre-season game against a Nigerian club. Wright, the new striker we signed from Salford, got his first goal in the same game, and it looks like McConnell is back from injury, playing 60 minutes.

U21s kick off their new season in a few hours, against Leicester.

I worry slightly that the DM issue might be a slight blind spot of Slot's. A quality DM is a cornerstone of every successful team. Also as things stand, there's an incredible amount of pressure on Gravenberch to play the role over 50/60 games.

Good luck in finding a proper DM these days. We do lack more defensive minded midfielders thats for sure and I will be very surprised if Slot doesnt try and bring someone in even someone with decent pace in the centre. Watching Endo trying to track back on Friday night was tragic, plus he had no business in being so high up the pitch while we attack, really poor.

How about swapping Konate for Guehi and we pay palace £30m.
We get the player we want for a reasonable price, palace get a very good CB for the season until he goes to RM on a free anyway, giving them time to get a replacement. Sorted.
So we give them a £70m player plus £30m for a defender thats in the last year of his contract, which they're holding out for £40m for. Is that you trying to do an impression of me, because its a mighty good.
If you're referring to Wharton, the problem with Wharton, he won't be happy to sit on the bench, you don't buy a £100m player to put on the bench.
Someone like Hayden Hackney who has a really high ceiling, available for £20-30m could come in and deputise when needed.
However, if Slot and Hughes think that Endo can do the job, then what can you do, other than put trust in them.
