I'm actually getting worried; Lucas has been improving, he's stronger on the ball and he is passing much better now.

BUt he is still a limited midfielder and all these articles arent going to help the next time he has a nightmare, which he will.

I just hope he keeps his head screwed on and continues to improve; and I'm hopeful that he can, because he's shown tremendous attitude over the past few seasons and there is a player there.

lucas seems like a thoroughly nice bloke so I want him to do well

Again, why is Lucas the only player that gets video after video made of them doing fairly ordinary things?

It was a solid game from Lucas with a couple errors. Good to see him pushing up the field as Chelsea had more of the ball.

Also, the first part of that video shows just how lazy the pressing has been by chelsea, it looks like an italian league game.

Let's not start sucking his dick just yet. He's still just as likely to needlessly kick a Wigan player in the box in the dying minutes as we're trying to grind out a win. Again.

Lucas has steadily been improving, I am not sure how much more he can improve, but I for one really hope he does nail down a place in the team under Kenny. He is gives his all for us every single game

Lucas is like Mubarak the more the masses dislike him the more he puts a fight to stay.He should have left long before when Rafa left.

agree, he is being applauded for doing the basic things well, something that is a minimum for anyone who wears the red shirt.

Is that youtube clip supposed to get people into basketball or something? It's the worst pile of shit I've ever watched.

I think, for the most part, this new found wave of Lucas praise is no more than an acceptance of competence.

He has improved, certainly. But he's still no more than a potential squad player to me.

Squiggles, Lucas is a first team player in the current squad. Why anyone is in denial about this is beyond me? His is justifying his selection.

Is there anyone who would dare play Poulsen ahead of Lucas? Jonjo isn't ready yet and Spearing is not good enough.

Where did I say he wasn't?

When Lucas is an automatic starter, it's clear the first team needs improving upon.

The same applies to Kuyt and Maxi.

Come on Squiggles, read your second paragraph.

I do agree that when Lucas is an automatic starter in our first team, there's work to be done.

I'm still hopeful of Kenny getting in the right quality in the summer.

The 24 year-old won his eighth cap for Brazil in Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat against France and Dalglish insists his increased importance for his national side proves how much he has grown as a player at club level following a difficult start to his career in England.

Brazil have had some fantastic players in the No?5 shirt [that Lucas wears],” said Dalglish, though the Liverpool manager would not be drawn on the progress of the player’s contract talks, with his deal due to expire next summer. “The best-known was Dunga, who won World Cups and went on to manage them.

The fact he [Lucas] started for Brazil tells you they must be very pleased with him as well, and the performances he has put in for us mean he has deserved it.

I have always said he is highly thought of in Brazil, probably more than in Britain, but certainly not [more than] at Liverpool. We have always appreciated what he can do. Last Sunday he was as good as anyone on the pitch at Chelsea. He is only 24. He will be a good player when he grows up.”

Lucas, 24, is helping fans forget Javier Mascherano with his form and he is even being compared to Dalglish’s old team-mate Ronnie Whelan because of his displays in the midfield holding role.

“Well, Ronnie was a good player,” said Dalglish. “I don’t think Lucas is going to be the one who beats five or six players and puts it into the back of the net. But he may be the one who stops the guy going past the first fella then sets us on our way.

“He’s an important member of the team. Most teams have someone like that in the ranks and we are no different.

Now that certain completely blinkered anti-Lucas posters are not around I hope he gets the appreciation he deserves

His desire in the 50/50 tackle is admirable. His passing has improved and his confidence on the ball showing all the time is superb

He deserves to be 1st team and his form will also give kenny a headache when trying to fit in the new players. You cannot say dirk or Lucas deserve to make way for anyone

Given the fact that brendan remains on tlw despite the relentless beatings he's been taking, I'd say he's been banned again.

Lets see if he's offered a contract. I think Kenny might be talking him up ahead of selling him.

I have to admit, it please me that people are taking notice of Lucas more positively now. He's not played that much better than he did last year, which is strange. I've always said he's got character in abundance and it's paying off now.

He now needs to score a few goals to make people sit up and take notice. Under Kenny's fluent passing style, it suits his game. Most of his passes are forward now too, He's always the fulcrum of our passing in the middle, he gets more tackles than anyone else in the team and he always makes himself available for a pass. His one touch passing is as good as anyone in the team. He became a real player for me when he started raking long passes out wide.

I think he's there on merit and he's good enough to play in a league chasing side. He can still give away the odd silly free kick in dangerous areas and be shrugged off the ball a little too easily but he's still a young improving player.

He still gets overrated on decent performances though. A Gerrard or Meireles 6 would be a Lucas 8.

Spot on sg

He does his detractors underrate him to ridiculous lengths. It's the nature of the position that he'll get a 6 because its not eye catching and he doesn't score goals, but that will come. Kenny has given him license to burst forward.

Disagree with Fabio and George. It's a different role he plays and he's doing a good job of late. He's no Eusebio but he's doing well in the role he's playing in.

I not saying there's not better out there - there is. BUT we have other areas that need attention first

He's not really got the dynamism of someone like Mascher or the ability to read the game of somebody like Didi to ever be amazing at breaking down the opposition play, but he can do a job there.

What used to really annoy me though, was that he seemed almost as effective at breaking down our play as he did theirs - whether that was from dallying on the ball for too long, or picking the wrong pass (ie sideways when the momentum was going forward).

He still takes too much time in possession at times, but he's certainly getting better, and he could hold his head high with any player after the game against Chelsea. Perhaps it's a confidence thing? Maybe he's just been given more license to express himself, who knows?

The lad can pick a pass, I remember a game he had, perhaps his first season, maybe against Newcastle (ok, 'remember' might be stretching it) when I hadn't really made my mind up about him, and he threaded this through ball (which I think led to a goal) that was Gerrardesque. Back then, I thought he could make it. In between I've thought he was nothing more than a squaddie at best. If he carries on improving he could still be a decent player for us
