What's the thoughts on our new #2.

I think so far he's not been a real issue, which is what you ask for in a #2 these days.

I think Caoimhin is marginally better as a footballer, but they are comparable in shot stopping

for me his distribution is better than advertised but he seems to be a little meek for a big man. might be totally explainable with new club/language/style of play/building his confidence up or whatever but i’m sure he’ll be fine.

I don't think he was meant to be a number two. If he proved well, he was supposed to be the long term replacement for Al. Besides Al has been out for significant portions of last three season.

Sample size if far too small. It's weird that I automatically think this for a keeper and most would agree, but we don't do the same for outfield players.

Anyways.. Has he cost us anything yet i terms of goals or points? I don't think so. I heard the reports from last season and was quite worried, but he's been fine. We don't know if he's better or worse than his current showing cos he hasn't played enough games, but he's definitely a good keeper.

He shouldn't have been beaten for that Mbuemo goal. For all the fuck ups that Virgil and the ref had in the build up, he still had it slotted between his legs

He's a massive guy and is clearly a good shot-stopper, but Kelleher was miles better as a sweeper keeper, both in his quickness and willingness to come off the line as well as with the ball at his feet.
In the context of a high-line and full-backs pushing up, we've always needed a capable sweeper-keeper to snuff out those long balls quickly.

In a post-Alisson world, there's no way we'll be able to play like that. So maybe the structure of our play is going to change - let's see

The ugly warts of that transition have been on full display already this year, and part of that is Mamardashvili's inability to come off the line

Will see how it pans out - there've been big fuck-off keepers like Courtois and Donnarumma who've reached the very top level despite not being very good with the ball at their feet. That's the archetype for Mamardashvili to emulate

He's certainly not going to be like Alisson - who's in the Neuer and Buffon league of being nearly flawless

Dash is only 25, which is still quite young for a keeper so he can definitely improve certain aspects of his game.
I agree that it's a small sample size so far, but one thing I've appreciated is that we haven’t seen any howlers yet.
And if you’ve been a supporter since the '90s like I have, you're probably still carrying a bit of trauma from some of our past goalkeepers.

Early days, but I've been impressed. His shot-stopping is next level, and he's better with his feet than I thought he would be. He's cleared it when he's needed to, and there have also been some very encouraging long passes. I remember one that the commenters were comparing to Ederson's. There have been one or two moments he hasn't come off his line quickly and decisively, which has been my main worry for him, as it's something all the best keepers have in their locker. For a £25-£30M player coming from a new league, etc., it's gone well. Sadly, Alisson's injuries are all too predictable, and we need quality in reserve.

He looks decent and pretty steady to me. Alisson is still the best but given he is always likely to get injured, we need a reliable back up.

Whether he is better than Kelleher I'm not sure, but Kelleher was always gonna leave so it wasn't really a choice anyway.

Kelleher has looked shite for Brentford. That makes me think this guy is an upgrade. I would like to see him come out quicker and be more dominant in that sense. Other than that I think he’s been quality.

Allison is something else, but this lad has shown some balls - should he become Allison’s successor in a couple years time, I think he’s showing promise.

I quite like “Dash” as a ‘keeper nickname - maybe it will catch on…

… especially if he improves his ability to “dash” off his line!

Kelleher carried the "no howler" tag, until he had one, same with Dudek, then they seemingly couldn't shake them off. Mama's sound

My concern with him is his lack of composure when passed the ball under pressure. This has been a feature of the set pieces that led to goals against Palace & Brentford.

However the defence was also poor too.

Shot stopping is excellent.

Not as commanding at set pieces as Ali but time will tell.

I’m not convinced he’s a step up on Kelleher but he’s possibly got a higher ceiling.

the two things I’ve highlighted are importaht in my view

- with the ball we like to use the GK in build up. He isn’t a natural with the ball, so that is a negative

- our opponents are using set pieces and long balls like it’s our weakness, and he needs to be solid here. I haven’t seen enough to say he’s excelling here.

Anyway, let’s see how it goes. It’s very hard to try and judge him when the alternative is hands down the best keeper we’ve ever had.

For this i do wonder (and it's still a fair criticism), that it took a bit of time for the defenders to realise "hey, this guy's left footed, maybe I need to be more aware of that", and mamas clicked on the fact he needs to position himself quicker for passes to he can control with his left. He's a goal keeper, so we shouldn't be expecting his control to be outlandish, especially on his weaker foot.

We've been spoiled by Alisson.

I've every confidence he'll be great

It's way too early to make judgements. He's settling in to a new team and league and it's obvious that it will take time to get a real sense of how good he is.

Everyone knows this, but some can't say it straight out without exposing hypocrisy.

The signs so far are pretty positive.

If he keeps our back door closed by getting off his line quickly I’m sure we can stretch to DoorDash

Remember the days of bringing on Brad Jones or Adam Bogdan, panicking every time the ball was within 30 yards of our goal. I've not had that same feeling with Kelleher or with Dash.

He's got a few short comings, all highlighted above, like receiving the ball under pressure, sweeper stuff and bulling out to claim a ball. And I might've missed someone else mention it, he seems quite quiet, like he's still in awe of where he is and who he's playing with, maybe a bit too shy to give VVD or Robbo a bollocking when they aren't where they need to be.

I think his distribution and receiving the ball have got better the more he's played. I think he's a great shot stopper. He pushes his saves to safe areas like Alisson. He's started looking for fast distribution more and more, don't remember any coming off yet though.

In my opinion, he's doing great. He's in the shadow of the best goalkeeper in the world and performing well. I'd have him as #1 over what Newcastle, Utd, Chelsea, Spurs have.
