Funny thing is Ole is actually buying good players and improving some of their young players too.

Problem is, tactically he's inept and struggles to win/change a game, so all of those good players are just wasting away their talent. And United's only solution is to throw more money at the problem, hoping having enough good players will overcome a tactically inept manager (ala Real Madrid years ago).

Was he tactically inept against City? For 3 wins?

Hisb in game management is woeful, he sets his team up Ok and then just relies on them to react and adjust through the game. Hes one of the worst managers in the league, if he was available tomorrow im not sure any top 10 side would touch him.

It's a derby. Players motivations are often high, as they are when they play us.

"win/change" really means when they're not playing well, against a lesser side, and when plan A isn't working.

Regardless that was 3 wins against Pep. And his tactics weren't his run of the mill tactics either. He caught Guardiola out.

I seem to remember this 'not making subs to change a game' charge being leveled at Klopp too. Primarily it's how you set your team out and the tactics from the start that are going to decide the vast majority of matches.

Rashford makes it 2-1. He turns Brighton’s defence about 6 times before scoring a deflection.

I hope Ole stays as long as possible. He hasn’t got it and never will. After Utd he’ll slip off into obscurity.

Id rather they keep this manager. He’s the worst they’ve had in 50 years.

You're missing the point, if they keep him in long term, it's because he's doing well. The only managers that stay at clubs longer than a few seasons, are the successful ones. I want them to be talking about sacking all their managers every year.

Like Wenger you mean?

I often find United winning games due to individual quality and bad finishing from the opposition than just outright winning games from the start by outplaying the opposition. They seem to make a specialism of undeserved wins.

Post lockdown they were in great form, but it's hard to judge how good it truly was given that most other teams post-lockdown form/motivations were low.

Which is testament to the quality of individual players & a determination to keep playing.

However, it doesn't reflect well at all on the team as a whole, they're inability to gel, or their tactics.

Brighton have hit the woodwork four times today; no team has done so more in a single Premier League game since Opta have this data available (2003-04).

Exactly.

He's actually buying some really good players (unlike Moyes/Mourinho), so if he were to get sacked now, i'd be more worried if a great manager came in.

I don't think they fire him (unless he does really really badly) until they have their new DOF in place which is apparently next summer.

What was it .. 13 games unbeaten at the end of last season? OK those were unprecedented circumstances but this forum does seem to be saying that if they win it's due to the individual players and if they don't it's down to the manager.

I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here. Of course I have no idea how good (or otherwise) a manager he will turn out to be. However Ibro's statement that he's 'inexperienced' seems far closer to the target for me than 'inept'. If that is true then it means his 3 wins (three out of four !) against Pep were maybe not flukes and that, as with a young player, a young manager is going to be inconsistent, which doesn't mean he's crap.
