Midfield was sensational!?

Yes it was..when we had the ball, we exploited the space, moved it forward, ripped through them, created chances, but there were times when it was to easy for them to get at our back 4..in parts of the first half...not to a great degree. The Boss had a go at Hendo over it. He spotted it, Carra spotted it as well.

And it is one of the reasons why we have conceded a few goals to many of late.If you look through the posts before kick off you will see the anxiety that was knocking about. Not being tight enough when we lose possession was the reason for that anxiety and it is a problem..allowing teams to get at our back 4 which in turn leads to chances. We will tighten up on that part of our game if we are to overcome Chelsea and City.

I'm not moaning..we thrashed them..I'm just making an observasion

DO y'all like the damn kit NOW?????? :)
It's really really awful isn't it. Looks like it's been dyed with the cat's cream.

But if we are going to win every game with it like that then it should be our first kit !

Exposed time and again by dire defending and could do little about the goals. Saved well from Trent Alexander-Arnold - at 5-0. 5
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
A defensive dud. His aimless wandering sparked the collapse and he was poor in both halves. You can see why they wanted Kieran Trippier. 1
Victor Lindelof
How did anyone ever convince Jose Mourinho to sign him? Feeble and slow, he showed why United bought Raphael Varane. 2
Harry Maguire
Must be top of the Premier League assists chart for the amount of goals he has gifted the opposition. A walking disaster culpable for just about every goal. 0
Luke Shaw
His hangover from the best season of his career and a stellar international tournament worsens. Lazy and slow. 1
Scott McTominay
Fortunate to start and did not remotely vindicate it. Utterly helpless against a superior midfield and superior midfielders. 2
Fred
Sparked the breakaway that Bruno Fernandes should have scored from but otherwise swamped by better players. 3
Mason Greenwood
Drew a save from Alisson in the first-half but that was about it before he came off at half-time. 3
Bruno Fernandes
Missed a glorious chance at 0-0 and that was punished a minute later by Naby Keita. Horrendous thereafter. 2
Marcus Rashford
A regressive performance. So often so greedy and it exasperated the supporters. Deserved better from a late first-half run but that's about it. Came off. 2
Cristiano Ronaldo
Lost his cool and could easily have been sent off for kicking out at Curtis Jones. Scored fabulously but was retrospectively found to be offside. 2

The team was as predicted and that is the problem with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: he is going round in circles. The circle has closed now. 2

ECHO Player Ratings for Liverpool :

Alisson Becker 8
Saved well from Greenwood and Ronaldo first half and positioning and handling solid. Had a good rest after the break.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 8
Alert to smash in the cross for the second goal and defended with authority. Kept on pressing forward second half.
Ibrahima Konate 9
Excellent showing on only his third start, both in terms of aerial dominance and distribution. Wasn’t fussed about Ronaldo at all.
Virgil van Dijk 8
Pretty straightforward before the break, and even popped into central midfield on one occasion. Another to put his feet up after half-time.
Andy Robertson 8
Offered himself regularly down the left going forward and some necessary interventions on the back foot.
Jordan Henderson 8
Bypassed on occasion in the defensive midfield role early on as Liverpool were forced to keep reshuffling their engine room, but got to grips with it and used ball well. Not least with his delicious pass for Salah’s hat-trick.
James Milner 7
Got stuck in and helped both with the pressing and distribution before pulling up injured first half. Subbed.
Naby Keita 10
Slotted home the first, had a hand in the second, set up the third and pressed like a demon while always pushing forward. Subbed after horrible Pogba red-card challenge.
Mohamed Salah 10
Mustn’t have had any lunch given the way he had Shaw on toast, assisting the first and scoring the third, fourth and fifth. He truly is the best player in the world right now.
Roberto Firmino 8
United defence couldn’t get a handle on the Brazilian, whose clever feet helped fashion the fourth. Subbed.
Diogo Jota 8
A constant menace with his direct running down the left, slid in the second and set up Salah’s second.
Curtis Jones (for Milner 27) 7
Instantly involved and keen to track back when required. On the end of nasty tackles from Ronaldo and Fernandes.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (for Keita 64) 7
Got stuck into the midfield battle and enjoyed himself.
Sadio Mane (for Firmino 76) 7
Could have passed when in a decent position but this isn’t the day to be overly picky. Have a 7, Sadio.

I did like one of the comments below the marks given :
Not sure about the inflated marks from the Echo about individual performances, but nothing could inflate my smile!!!

Lot of talk about the press..Liverpool do it as good as any..better than most..United are poor at it..so what is the press.

It's about your front 3 being switched on to the possibility..a sniff..if a keeper plays it short and the then the full back hasn't got enogh options or delays a split second..or plays a slightly sloppy ball..the front 3 then run that down with mad pace and aggression...then chase untill a slight another error is made. Our front three are 100% switched on to the possibility of a slight delay on the ball played tight. win possession cheaply. Then you have a chance. We coach it. The midfield play it tight as well.

United are just not hunting the ball in packs...they don't sniff out those slight delays, slightly misplaced pass. No communication or teamwork between the front 3/4...one of them might do it but it's too easy for teams to correct a slight error playing out from the back...you have to have your front 3 100% ready to pounce on those small errors..United are at less than 50% on the press.

You cant play pressing tactics with 37 year old Ronaldo upfront.

I said 2-5 on the echo site on Wednesday..if they had taken their chances I would've won a good few bob...can't rely on United...

I pointed that out before the match. Ronaldo has 1122 games in his legs..in buying him Ole it put all their pre season plans up the wall. They paid millions for Sancho..once Ronaldo was signed all bets were off. Populist signing, he sets his own agenda, Pogba does the same. Ole doesn't know his best front three or his best front 6. Pogba is a talent but Ole has no clue how to deal with him. He should build the front 6 around Pogba..Ronaldo should only be used as a impact sub or against really lower class teams..cup games maybe.

The whole team works as individuals, yes they are on it but not 100% and not against decent organised teams. Carra is right, Ole is a decent man but he's out of his depth at United..lets hope they stand by him.

Fair to a point, but our pressing and how many times we stripped them of the ball was fantastic. A team with Man U’s players will always get some chances. The first to Fernandes was poor. That is the only significant issue I saw and I think the back 4 played their part, too.

We do have the best back four (6) in the league, so that we can take some risks with our midfield play.
