Here we go, back to footy. Kind of a friendly (as we don’t recognise it on the Champions Wall) but I’d love to win it all the same.

I’d start same team that started the second fixture today except Virg in for Endo. Will be interesting to see if Macca earns his spot back, but nice to have 3 great players vying for those 2 CM spots.

I can see Macca starting, a better defender than Szobo. But Damn it's tough to get into that midfield now.

Grav is serving a ban at the start of the season, so should be a sub for this…got to start whoever is standing in for him at the 6 (Macca?) 5 days before the big first game.

Gravy is suspended from Bournemouth fixture right? Not this one? Surely we play him if he's fit? Can understand the logic that we start the team that would play against Bournemouth - but where are these Jones shouts coming from? Is Szobo injured?!

I think this one counts as his one match suspension. And damn yeah I'd forgotten Szobo - amended pronto !!!
 
Yep, best to prep for opening week without Grav and then bring him off the bench to rest legs. Ideally VVD and Ali are back.

Macca is getting his minutes heavily managed, so I wouldn't be amazed to Jones finding his way in there, but lets see.
 
I really hope Rio gets a spot on the bench. What a way to start the season it would be for him to get 10/15 mins at Wembley and get a run at some of the Palace full backs.

Due to injuries he'll definitely have a spot on the bench, but it'll be more tricky when everyone is back and we sign Isak.

Slot was asked about Salah leaving mid season to play in the AFCON and if that would give someone like Chiesa more opportunities.

Slot in his reply doesn't even mention Chiesa, he instead highlights how Frimpong could play as a RW as well.

I'm sorry about how things have gone with Chiesa. His attitude has been exemplary from day one, he's shown some good touches when he's had game time and initially I had hopes that he might lay the ghosts of our past Italian signings to rest. All that said, Slot's ruthlessness (which I like) doesn't seem to allow any further leeway in this case and I hope the lad can find a new club which will give him a chance to reestablish himself.

Liverpool Echo's report says otherwise?

Slot added: "We think we already have a lot of attacking power in our team. I think about Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, Mo Salah, Jeremie Frimpong who can play as a right-winger, Florian Wirtz who can play as a left-winger.
 
Those references to "can play" worry me a bit. I don't want players just "doing a job" in any position except in an emergency. We had far too much of that during the barren years.

He said the same when Nunez and Diaz were around. The only way Chiesa stays is if there's absolutely no takers.

Even if there's not takers his role will be reduced into a mascot or something. Slot didn't even bother getting him on the pre-season tour

Just a quick check on AFCON again and it's from 21st Dec 2025 – 18th Jan 2026 and don't they have to be there 2 weeks before it starts?

Luckily (or by design) we only lose Mo., though Egypt could potentially get to the final (they are 2nd favs at 6/1 behind strong favourites Morocco), so we will potentially lose him for the whole tournament.

These are the PL games - I don't know where the LC, CL or FAC games slot in. Happily we are only playing one Top 6 team (Arsenal away) during that time.
