Some sort of pun about having a well known member

The standard of refereeing is great, isn't it? Oh wait...

At least VAR is there to sort it out...

After an absolutely horrendous week last week of balls ups, seems this week is starting in the same vein.

Shout out to @Frogfish

You seriously want to start this again ? Until the rules are changed this will continue to happen week in week out. Don't be shit-stirring cunt when we're losing.

I said the rules are shit. I also said the referees are shit, as is their use of the technology.... they're getting stuff wrong within the laws of the game too

That firmino goal being disallowed is a travesty. Do other leagues/tournaments using var have the same issues, or is this just the PL being clueless on how to use it?

But the assistant isn't supposed to raise the flag when it is that close. And if they hadn't, it would have been a goal... such a weird system.

... and then VAR would have ruled it out.

Its a pain in the hole, but no issues with this.

The Mane penalty/yellow card on the other hand ... with offsides they just make a black and white decision based on red & blue lines, and in the end you really can't argue, but with other decisions the subjective "clear & obvious" muddies the whole decision making process

VAR would have called the goal back though, the picture above confirms that.

I've heard it says that offside is offside, you are either on or you are not, but I have also heard things like the attacker is supposed to get the benefit of the doubt.

I suppose by the exact letter of the law, Bobby is offisdes, but by the spirit of the law, a fucking arm? Does that really make any kind of difference?

Who cares though, we won.

They pick the picture and lines, guys... there is literally a huge margin of error involved (read what FFF shared). If the linesman hadn't flagged the goal would have stood. No doubt in my mind.
Also since when is the armpit a goalscoring part of the body? I thought it was head/leg/chest...?

And that is still true, but with VAR the doubt is removed.

Would you prefer it if the VAR decision making process was "well strictly that was offside, but if i didn't have this camera angle I can see why there would have been doubt and so I am going to say not offside".

For me VAR should remove the subjectivity, and it does that really well for offsides and for handball in the lead up to a goal, but then fucking reinvents itself as a subjective decision maker for all other situations

Even that handball one went out the window the other week. Newcastle scored one that hit the forwards hand and then he finished it. Clearly visible on VAR but was ignored. There's absolutely no consistency.

firmino-armpit.png

clearly offside there. firmino should start shaving his armpit hair.

this is not a penalty. the ball hits head

There seems to be something in every single game. It's a complete farce

It took all my willpower to avoid typing VARce there.

Refereeing is poor but I’m glad we have Var. It gets more right than wrong compared to the refs.

Off topic slightly but it pisses me off when deluded fans claim refs are biased. Shit no doubt, but not biased. It’s utterly childish.

These highlights don't show it here, but you can just about make it out... the ball hits Joelinton on the arm and falls into the path of Schar and he finishes. Should've been disallowed but wasn't. A minute or so in.

Did you not see the stats on when Atkinson referees City or Liverpool games? Our win percentages drop from the 80%s to the 40%s. How do you explain that otherwise? It can't actually be random... the sample size isn't tiny.

They're still getting an absolute bucket load wrong though. Last weekend, virtually every game had some sort of mongy, contentious VAR decision.

Is it possible he referees the more high-profile, tougher games? God knows how he gets them, like, but maybe that partly accounts for it?

Initially, I'm like yeah, he fucking hates us and he's a cheat. But after I think about it and calm down, I come to the conclusion that he's probably just really, really, REALLY shit.

VAR, if used correctly, would be great. But we have retards using it.

Agreed, this is were I’m at. Its not used properly in the Premier league, and its made worse with them making their own version without the pitchside refereeing.

And how can it work when its used by a gang of clueless cunts.

It's shit referees giving shit decisions on the pitch that is being reviewed by shit referees in a studio. The common theme is the shitness of the officials.

I didn’t say it doesn’t see the game differently to other refs but he’s not biased. It’s just fucking Ming behaviour to think so.

I don't think its that... he basically broke up our play for Utd this past game, let them waste time the whole game and didn't call fouls for them for similar infringements we were getting called for...
Last year we drew to Leicester with him in charge where Magure should have been sent off and Keita should have won a penalty.

Its possible he is really shit. But he has been punished by the FA for favouring Utd in a game and he has a huge effect on Liverpool and City not winning as often as they normally do. The empirical evidence suggests a bias.

Today was ridiculous, Firmino was onside and Mane was fouled... the Mane one I excuse, the Firmino one is ridiculous on all levels.

If he really is just shit its a miracle cause there is a pattern. We've only won 28 of the 63 games he has been in charge for. And 4 in 9 since the start of last season.
