I'd rather bring Lucas back from retirement. No, hell no & fuck no.

Pinnington is very highly rated isn't he? Or I'm I remembering that incorrectly (not that I want to see a 10 stone centre back, it's a genuine question)Chance for Pinnington, Nallo or Lucky perhaps?

Strange one. We were happy to spend a third of a billion on a few new attackers but not an extra five mill or so on a bargain of a decent CB. Makes you wonder if it just wasn’t as simple as that. That haggling over a few quid for Guehi paid off big time.
Slot put Rhys Williams instead of him on the bench against Southampton, and has on previous occasions picked Nallo ahead of him for CL or pre-season games, so I don't think they're high enough on him at this point. Frankly, I'm not comfortable with any of the U21 CBs, although I do think Pinnington looks the least raw of the three to me (and youngest at 18; Nallo and Lucky are a year older).
Maybe Bajcetic will be ready for some minutes by the time the cup game against Palace comes around in the final week of October. He should be about two months into his return to training by then. Maybe not ready to play 90 minutes, but should be ready to play a half, either as a stand-in CB or a CM while Endo plays the stand-in CB.
It clearly wasn't - but some people here are just not having that. It must be our fault FFS.Strange one. We were happy to spend a third of a billion on a few new attackers but not an extra five mill or so on a bargain of a decent CB. Makes you wonder if it just wasn’t as simple as that.
Centre backs are different from a lot of positions though. If you have one centre back that is skilful, a brilliant tackler, is the best passer, but they cant handle the physical side (as they are too light, or awaiting a growth spurt etc.) then they are basically useless.
It's possible to rate him higher than Rhys or Nello, but sill choose not to use him.
I have some vague memory of reading he was very highly rated... I could be entirely wrong.

Agreed. And we were offering 35M for a player in the last year of his contract too. But wait, we were the ones haggling...

Not if you want to keep winning they can’t.Endo, Robbo and even Dom could play CB if needed. We’ll be fine.
Had we matched their release clause, Guehi would be ours.
Are we sure about that? Glassner clearly wanted to keep 'im. Bloody stubborn Austrians 🤣 🤣

Cheers. If you're talking about Pinnington then all I know is he was playing well above his age group a couple of years ago and also played for the England youth teams. They're obviously positive signs.
Otoh I don't think I've ever heard him specifically mentioned as being a standout talent. I'm personally always pretty wary of any youngster who's got to 18 and never been around the first team picture. It just doesn't bode well. Nallo, for example, is clearly not good enough but even he's made appearances and played in preseason etc.
You're right Al. Gomez seemed to pass to their players as much as he passed to ours.Thought Gomez was pretty shit tbh. Leoni was probably my motm, he looked quick, strong and good on the ball. Murphys Law or the Italian curse?
It leaves a bad taste but he is young so should heal quickly and will have the best surgeon. I reckon some young players who haven't broken through yet get cattle doctors.
And guess who we're playing in the next LC game? Sod's Law.Yes, chances are this is what will happen if we need to.
I doubt we'll have a great defensive line up for the next League Cup game, but I'm sure we can all live with that.
We should obviously be looking at doing something in the January transfer window. I doubt Palace will be keen to sell Guehi, especially if they are still doing okay at that time, as they will have accepted losing him for nothing and he himself will only have to wait a bit longer for a bigger payday. Wouldn't be surprised if we ended up buying or loaning someone else though.
Which is why I called him 'Southampton's best creative source' !You're right Al. Gomez seemed to pass to their players as much as he passed to ours.

'Wait a bit longer' is actually a long time (in footballing terms) though - 5 to 5½ months. In which time we'll have won the Quad and he'll have missed out on all of it and history.
