The Mane problem

After losing Ings we could do with one more player as backup, unfortunately Woodburn and Ojo aren't good enough yet to be realistic cover. Still, I'd rather we focused on another centre back, which is much more needed.

Yep

that's a different question
Its relevant in that we cannot directly replace Mane and therefore our effectiveness is likely to drop in January. I dont particularly want to go back to last year when we just had 3 floaty AMs behind a striker.

Its not that we dont have options its that none of our options has anything like the skillset that Mane brings to the team, we havent had that sort of blistering pace on the counter since we sold Sterling. Hes been one of the key players in our attacking unit this season because he gives us something different, without him in the side for 7 games I think we run the risk of being a little predictable

The only silver lining in the cloud is that Coutinho will be ready to play just as we're losing Mane. It isn't like-for-like, but it is still a tremendous boon to have him back just as we're losing an important player.

Every one of those floaty AM'a is playing at a much higher level though.

Not just that, I can see Origi and Studge starting together, as both have pace and might bring their own thing to the role Mane has been playing. Whilst not ideal, we do have options.
