So a win against these this weekend will put us within 6 pts (less if City & Chelsea drop points too).

Therefore a win puts us on the fringes of a real title race for me. Still the outsider of the 4 but we'd be in it. So let's discuss how we set about beating them.

We have to get at least a point to keep pole position in the chase for fourth. A win? Extremely unlikely, but a win opens up third imo (I genuinely think Arsenal are going to fall away this month), it puts us in the conversation for the title, but not really in the race, we'd have to beat Chelsea and City at home to realistically be in the race again. We aren't going to win on Saturday, and we'd do well to get a point, which is what we really need, so this conversation is moot imo, what ifs are nice though I guess.

Not sure about this one. We generally respond well after a poor performance under Brendan Rodgers, but our record against Arsenal is poor.

I think our chances of talking title race disappeared at The Hawthorns. A win would mark a further statement of intent ahead of other upcoming big matches.

I think we'll tonk them if Sakho plays. Stop giroud and have Ozil worry about Gerrard. We need to figure out how we get Sturridge Sterling and Suarez in the front 3 without them getting in each others way

No way we are winning the league this year. If we win every game we'd make 89 points so we could probably only drop 4-5 max between now and the end of the season if we were to be in with a shout and there's pretty much no way that's happening. If we were second, 8 points off the Arse then maybe we would be a chance but there is no way we are closing the gap on all three of the teams above us.

Gerrard needs to show up big time for this game if we are to get a win. If we give them space in front of our back four then we'll get butt fucked.

We'll win 4-1.

By scoring a few goals, defending as a unit, closing them down quickly, not giving them time on the ball and hitting them on the counter. Thats the recipe for success 😉

I get pessimism and we all know that our team in not invincible, but for fucks sake this "we won't win" / "no way we can win the title" bullshit is pathetic.

Beating Arsenal is difficult. Winning the league is an enormous ask. Istanbul was impossible.

Can I give this 100 likes ?

I fucking hate the no-sayers who think beating Arse is impossible .. as fucking if. And it seems some people can't understand a league table or their maths is shite, or both. A win at home to the Arse puts us 5 points behind them (I hate WBA) and if we close that gap our GD will be superior, if we beat Chelsea at Anfield that is effectively 3 points behind them with a superior GD, if we beat City at Anfield then we would be 3 points behind them too (though effectively 4 because of their superior GD).

Is that likely ? Of course not, it would be incredible but it is definitely not impossible with SSS firing on all cylinders and nearly all our injured players back in the next 7-10 days. So those nay-sayers can go fuck themselves because there is still a chance of us narrowing the points difference to a title to just 3-5 points and then anything could happen.

It's no pathetic, it's just realistic. If we win the league from here it will be a bigger miracle than Istanbul.

Whilst I take your point about the points we'd need and needing others above us to drop points, we do have all three of the teams above us to come to us and they also have to go to others so points will be dropped and last nights result showed that City can be beaten.

I'm not saying we will win it, just that 6 points or less off the top with the games left doesn't leave us right out of it.

last nights result showed that City can be beaten.
After watching last night's match (well, most of it) I realised that Liverpool can beat any of the teams in the league and this makes results like last Saturday's all the more frustrating.

We play Arsenal like we played Everton -

Not sure that is a good idea unless of course you only refer to the result, then YES of course.

My main worry is, that our current tactics work splendidly against opposition that is not particular good when in possession. Let them have a bit of the ball alright and SMASH we give them SterlingCoutinhoSturrdigeSuarez pace right back at them when they eventually loses the ball.

However this kind of tactics will not work a treat, imo, against the teams that actually prefers the ball - very much like Arsenal. You can add Swansea (though they have been poor of course), Southampton and City and Chelsea too (but these two mainly because they have great players in almost every position and that makes it difficult either way).

The amputated Everton din't make good use of the ball at Anfield last week and was punished and Spurs was a right joke at home when we trashed them. They tried "Arsenal" but failed miserably.

Against Arsenal however I would very much prefer a different approach, one that makes way for Allen ahead of either Sterling or Coutinho/Sturridge, with the aim to see more of the ball than we would normally prefer against teams with a lack of creativity. It is a balance as our direct approach can come in handy I just don't hope it'll be our main tactic.

We seem to hit the wall when we go for a number if games, 4 wins in the bounce, a few league wins on the bounce, etc.

As we drew disappointingly, I expect us to come back very strong & hopefully win it.

We need to get a lot more consistency if we're gonna mount a title challenge. It's possible, & I'm hoping for it, but given our lack of strength in depth I find it hard to see it happening without Arsenal, City & Chelsea all imploding.

We've played poorly twice under Rodgers in two encounters against them, but let's not forget that we also went to the Emirates and had them on the ropes at 2-0 in the 60th minute before they managed to spring back to draw the game. If Rodgers sends his guys out determined to make up for the poor WBA result, and to repeat our showings against Spurs and Everton, we'll do all right.

To press their midfield, Henderson and Allen need to start for me. This could be a game where we need to have either Coutinho or Sturridge in reserve to balance the team and also to have fresh legs and a potent attacking option off the bench if needed. It's a difficult choice - one works harder but the other scores for fun - but I'll go with Sturridge to start as you can push him to work harder in closing down, but you can't push Coutinho to suddenly become a better scorer.

They'll come to press us all over the pitch, but we can return the favour if our guys are up for it. And then it's all a matter of which team finishes its chances, and which makes mistakes at the back. I trust our guys aren't going to let last week's fuck up repeat itself. Their defence works well as a unit, but Koscielny is overrated and Mertesacker is slower than Carra, and we have a fearsome counter attacking unit.

We're 10-1-1 at home. Under Rodgers, our lads have grown some backbone. Let's go out and tonk the fuck out of them.

Arsenal, quite simply are Liverpool's bogey team. There is not a team I fear more than Arsenal (Wenger) when it comes to LFC as all the years of Wenger mastering us and Henry destroying our defence has instilled a core mentality to which only resonates conviction whether at Emirates or Anfield.

It even goes beyond Rafa's struggle against Wenger as even under Evans, Houllier and Kenny we struggled versus the Gunners as the only win was through Frimpong jeopardizing their whole game with a red card to which we won rather narrowly, i remember correctly some young lad got the winner for us, unfortunately who never made it being a regular first team for us.

Which is why my fury on the West Brom draw was inconsolable as not only we seem to lose points just before we face Arsenal, yet we lose the cushion that can be produced in risk of dropping points at Arsenal.

Anfield or no, the place is no fortress as seeing the difference between the sides, Arsenal is a superior team in all compartments, collectively.

But after saying all that, lets just go to frracking win the match and catch ballz every time they are on the ball, keep fucking the whole pitch, never give up will the end, yes yes yes we are going to .... ... ....

Tottenham Hotspur v Everton and Manchester United v Fulham both on Sunday too. A reverse to last weekend where we played after everyone else. Would be nice to stretch the lead between ourself and the teams below us.
