Not sure if the source is reliable at all, but kid is talented ... but not a good omen if he's looking for massive wages already:

[article]Chelsea may have one of the biggest youth academies in football, but when it comes to bringing their starlets through, they’re abysmal.

The Blues are in desperate need of a young star in their first team, yet it seems Dominic Solanke will be the latest to leave – and for Liverpool.

The Reds would only have to offer Chelsea around £8 million in compensation – and give the player a better contact, which is behind his motivations for leaving the club.

Solanke is highly rated, yet it seems he’s unable to convince the Chelsea board to pay him what he considers a reasonable amount – or put him in the first team – another reason he wants to move on.[/article]

It was in the London Evening Standard aswell, that he has told friends that he's signing for us.
The stories about looking for 50k a week are concerning. Have no idea about how talented this kid is but the Chelsea fans seem to think its very bad news that they're loosing him.
Not sure what to make of it all without having seen him play, at all..

were supposed to have rigid pay scales in place for youth players arent we ?

[article]Conte confirmed on Friday that he has spoken with Solanke and he believes the players wants to leave Chelsea.

'I think this is his will,' Conte. 'This question is better to ask him. I think for a young player to stay in a great team is a great opportunity.

'We have to respect every decision. Obviously I have spoken with him to try and understand his will.

'I repeat we must respect every decision. His contract expires in June. I wish for him and his family in the future. I am not sure.'

That Chelsea fan on Talksport just talking to Martin Lipton, the Mirror chief sports writer, said he's coming to us but it's a bad move because he won't get into our side any more than he can with Chelsea.

To be fair, Lipton did say we need a striker and Klopp has shown he is willing to pick the kids.

If he comes to us, its another nail in the coffin for Sturridge.

From what I've read, he's very highly thought of, can play striker and winger. Scoring at all ages up to and including U20s for England.

I think i read somewhere he was in the top 50 players for the future a year or so ago.

On loan at Vitesse, 18 years old, scoring 7 goals in 25 games. Its not to be sniffed at, and could easily fit into our system. Rumoured fee Chelsea want £8m in compensation.

As ever though, I'm not counting any chickens.

Edit heres the link - number 22 as at Jan 2016. Frightening how many on that list actually have made a break through since then.

Well for £8m it's a no brainer if he wants to come - even if we paid him his £50k over 4years that's only around £15m investment even if he's shite after 3 years we are bound to get our money back that we paid at least - so £7m over 3 years we've happily spunked way more than that on less likely prospects - buy him and get shut of Origi

Why is everybody assuming he's going to be worth loads of money in a few years. Has anybody actually watched him play?

What you mean he might not be the next world class talent from the world renowned Chelsea academy?

Chelsea has a great academy, don't get the sarcasm. Just because they don't break in to the Chelsea team doesn't mean they're not excellent at youth level

The Chelsea fans were also said not to be happy when we signed Sturridge and Borini. Not sure how much weight to give to their opinion TBH.

I hope we do our due diligence on this kid's attitude as well as his ability if those reports about his salary demands are even half right.

They have a great acadamy and they seem to be excellent at youth level. But have any of their players gone on to make a name for themselves at Chelsea or elsewhere?

Can only think of Ake, and thats not much of an example.

That reply was to a post questioning why it is assumed this lads value will rise dramatically. In the last 15-20 years I can think of two players they have produced that would get into our side. Terry and Bertrand, what are the odds of this one making it?

It'd be fantastic if he does become a superstar with us though.

Andreas Christensen was voted player of the year for Gladbach. He'll start for Chelsea next season is my guess. Alan Hansen-like.

Traore at Ajax could also become a player. De Bruyne was theirs as well for a few years.

So it's not like they can't spot them.

De Bruyne was shipped out and they did the same with Lukaku. They can spot talent but so far dont look like they can develop the players.
Christensen is a good shout.

They can develop them, they just don't want to play them. Too much pressure on the manager to blood youth

Ake, christensen, thorgan hazard, van aanholt, bruma, brown, kalas, brown, chalobah, boga, loftus-cheek

All good players, all would improve our depth/first team

And of course there's the borini example. At youth level he was banging goals in for fun. There's no reason why he couldn't have made it. He just couldn't make the step up. Bojan, traore and deulofeu were the creme de la creme of la masia, yet they're not fantastic.

Look at our famous academy. Who have we produced in recent years worth a damn? Sterling....about it

Ibe can't cut it at bournemouth, sinclair couldn't cut it at watford....who the fuck else is there? Lloyd jones? Dunn?

Yes we have more optimism with our current batch (kent, wilson, ojo etc), but we do not have a great track record

We can't be signing someone called Dominic for fucks sake.

Dominic?!

That meandering wardrobe Matteo was all we ever needed in the Dominic stakes.

That's similar to what people said when we signed a Julian... truth

Have they developed Thorgan Hazard? He played one game for the Chelsea U-21s and then spent 3 years on loan before being sold.
Their youth policy seem to be in that mould, and they're getting a decent profit out of it. But not adding any youth to their own side.
Bruma and Kalas are awful btw.

Perhaps one of the reason behind the lack of progress in players from their youth academy is the way their club is ran - seemingly treating the transfer market as a way of generating transfer revenue, as well as the turnover rate of their first team manager - not to mention Mourinho not really laying the foundation for progression for youn players into the first team.

That said, it's obvious that they haven't neglected their youth teams.

Tammy Abraham (who signed as an Under-8) is definitely catching the eye in Championship on loan with Bristol City this season. Fikayo Tomori, who also signed as an Under-8 joined Brighton on loan last month. Meanwhile, Kasey Palmer (signed as Under-16) is on loan at Huddersfield Town. This batch of youngsters (1st 2 aged 19, Palmer aged 20) might be the ones who make the breakthrough.

(Obviously not the best way to gauge the strength/promise of young players but its still an achievement that should not be ignored) -->

Chelsea have made it through to their eighth FA Youth Cup semi-final in a row
  • Chelsea's starting XI except for Reece James have all been capped for England

Good post mate, and I think thats pretty much it. They do some great work at youth level mind.
I'm not sure how Conte has been prebiously with giving youth a chance but in the league its been the same 13-14 senior players.
I guess the writing will be on the wall this summer if he promotes some of these youth players or buy replacements for the likes of Terry.

Read that they rate Abraham a lot higher than Solanke, and that the Chelsea youth staff are a bit 50/50 about Solankes chances.
