Downing

I see Downing as similar to Kuyt.
A hard working, intelligent player and model pro who will be an asset to a team without ever being a superstar.

I see him as a bag of shite.

ha ha

He'll be a good player for us, regardless of the little sympathy or lack of glamour with this signing.
Ticks all the boxes to improve the team and get the best out of our other players.

Need one more winger though, hopefully Mata.

We seem to be on a WASP hunt.

True dat.

Fuck this. Downing is soooo fucking midtable its untrue.
If united get jones and young and we get dann and fucking downing i will literally cry.

DA ALERT DA ALERT.

Our fearless leader is losing it ... We're going to win the fucking league, even if we line up wth Victor fucking Moses.
Would you fuck off with that shit.
I said we are going to win the league and we fucking will. I just want some good players not somemshit.

Is it too much to ask for a winger with a bit of fucking unpredictability? A bit of spice? A bit of headscratching skill? A bit of did-you-fucking-see-that!?

No, we have to get linked with the fucking Lucases of the left wing. Neat, tidy, composed, good ball retainers. Rieira, Kewell, pennant, Jovanovic. All about as boring as a winger gets.

And now Downing. Everything he does on a pitch you could read about in the day before's papers he's that fucking predictable. Even looking at him angers me.

Couldnt agree more.
I'm far from happy with signing Downing but I guess we'll just have to trust Kenny on this and support Downing.
Well, thats the stance I'm taking anyway.

See, that I don't get.

I trust Kenny, but I also think Downings guff and I dint want him.

It's allowed you know.

I agree that unpredictability is a very important quality that leads to goals. Suarez has it. I used to love Patrik Berger because he had the same ability to confuse defenses by doing something unexpected.

Hey, Im with you on this but what could be said about Downing has already been said so I've just decided to lay back and let this transfer window take it's course.
Feel free to criticize anyone you want.

When we pull Neymar out of the hat all this hysteria will be forgotten. I just hope Neymar can get earn his place ahead of Downing.

haha

Would Downing be the left footed version of a Jermaine Pennant in a Liverpool shirt?

Ryan stop telling us who you dont want and tell us who you do want
Well I wanted Ashley Young for starters.

He's going to be great for United.

Ok, I'm going to say it, I like Downing more than Young.

Granted, I don't rate young in the slightest but that is neither here nor there.

I've liked downing ever since his middlesborough days, obiously there is better out there but if we get him I'm not going to be too upset, he isn't slow, he can pass, he can cross and can also score and with Carroll in the team we need someone who can give him good service

Hmmm . . . a touch harsh.

On his day (ie before he joined us) Kewell could be special

Stewart Downing ranks third in the Premier League for 2011 in terms of goals scored + chances created with 89 behind Kevin Davies in second and Florent Malouda in first.

This surprised me....

Not sure if I'm right on this, but since Commolli got involved, we've signed Suarez, Carroll, Henderson and Doni. As far as I remember none of them were rumoured much, and all were signed within a day or two of the rumours starting. I don't think we're signing Downing.

I don't mind Downing. I'll only be disappointed about signing him if we don't buy another attacker/winger who's a bit more unpredictable and can provide a bit of spark. He's not that 'meh'.

Suarez might be the exception Gerry, but for the most part i think you're right. With 3 of those players i don't think we really heard anything until official bids had been made.

Agreed as long as we play him on the left, rather than on the right and coming inside all the time. The "meh" factor would have been pretty high for me until a couple of seasons or so ago, but he's definitely sharpened his game up since then.
