According to the Sunday mirror Arsenal are gunner bid £20m for him
Wow, they can have him.

Yeah, let's just do without a left winger eh.

Or we could buy one of those fictitious left wingers with a fancy sounding foreign name who are simply world class but are willing to sacrifice the champions league footy they crave just because we have a famous history.

Oh yeah, that's right, they DON'T FUCKING EXIST.

So you're justifying a bid of £20 Million for 27 year old Downing?
You're making it out to look like he's the second coming.

If the price is £20 Million I'd rather have N'zogbia.

Yeah like Luis Suarez.

Option two would be to add about £5 Million more and get Mata.

Yeah because it's just a case of us clicking our fingers and getting who we want.. You don't know how much Mata is going for, whether he's even interested in coming here and if we've even made any enquiries (and been rebuffed) already. Carry on with the fantasy shit though, it's proper entertaining.

Luis Suarez is more or less proof that we don't need CL football to entice world class players to join. On the other hand you're telling me that Mata joining is a fantasy. I really don't understand your logic.
Man C got a couple of world class players without CL football as well.

And why the hell should we be content with Downing? Especially with him having a £20 Million price tag.
If it was about £14 Million, sure no problem. My beef is with the fee and it's a bit childish of you to go "oohhh so we shouldn't get any left winger" boo fucking hoo.

I dont really care about the price. It's not my money.
Wouldn't it be great if everyone felt the same.
Trouble is every other thread here is about the combined sum of Carroll, Hendo and potentially Downing and McAdam.

The rest are about our wage budget. Are you telling me that you haven't had a moan about any of these issues?

Are you gonna make me search? 😉

By offering them a gazillion pounds a week in wages.

Firstly, its the Mirror. Wenger buying a 27 year old for 20 mill also sound very odd.

Secondly, I think we'll get him and at a lowervprice thsn 20 mill.

True, I doubt it but how much did he pay for Arshavin?

But isn't that part and parcel of the transfer market today. World class players are well paid.

Cheers for the info mate, heard anything else? Or is it true that very little info slips out these days? Its gone very quiet, and I actually think thsts the best way aswell.

Its virtually impossible to get any info at the mo,Anyone saying they have is probably guessing.Never known it like this for a long time. But the downing thing is spot on.

So it's being done behind closed doors, I presume.

I guess so. Must have covered the key-hole now as well. No info from Mark MC could mean big things....or nothing.

For every Suarez there's ten Kezman's. One foreign signing who makes it does not mean they all

Yes, City got class players, but they spent a fucking fortune doing so, paying obscene wages, & those players almost to a man show that buying players like that means they dont come with the right attitude.

So, you'd take him for 14m, but not 20m? Because?

That makes no sense, either he's better than what we have, or he's not. If he is, & we have to pay 20m, in absence of any fictious wingers who are better, available, & willing to come, then why the fuck not.

What kind of a question is that?
There's always been situations when players are priced out of a move.
I mean I'd love to have Scott Dann for £6 Million but not £15 Million.
It's about what he's worth and the fact that for every extra million we spend on players who's fee's are blown out of proportion, we're loosing cash to spend on other players.
Basically it's down to a difference of taste between me and you. This argument has nothing to do with cash. I've already said that I rate N'zogbia more than Downing and for you it's presumably the opposite.
£10-12 Million could get us the Frenchman with premier league experience goals etc.
If the club is adamant about Downing, IMO £14 Million should be the limit.
But if it's going to be £20 Million, I'd rather save £8 Million and buy N'Zogbia.

Indeed. Unless someone is aware of the exact details of our accounts, what we have available for wages as well as knowing what price other clubs will ask for along with which players will join us, and for what salary then ruling players out based on transfer fee is pretty pointless.

Downing is not a player I would want in an ideal World, but this is not an ideal World. If he is better than what we have, comes at a price that our owners think we can afford and wants to play for the club then he's worth a go surely.

Downing REPORTEDLY(he was supposed to have handed one in weeks ago) handing in a transfer request isn't necessarily significant in terms of him moving to Liverpool.

1) loads of players have done it before, and they've still remained at the Club

2) who's to say he's not handing it in hoping Arsenal/Spurs or someone come in for him. Doesn't have to be Liverpool or nothing.
