Isakly what we need

Thanks man. I could have sworn before we were properly linked people where saying he was overrated for the price.

The fee is excessive though. Frankfurt don’t need to sell and the striker market is thin.
But he’s a very good player.

He’s about 20m overpriced (at the 75-80m he’ll go for ) imo…but such is the market and we’ve a title to retain…

is nobody concerned about his short stint at PSG?
EF players don't usually play well. However, recruitment team have got it right more often than Klopp. If its not Isak or Ekitike than who? Sesko is about the same price did not do as well.

yea i trust them to get it right

If we had supposedly scouted Ekitike for a long time, why the hell did we not get him earlier?

Isak at 120m is our own wishful thinking and it will end up being closer to 150m if it's even possible. We could have gotten Ekitike for half the price but his price seems closer to 80-100m now with the bidding war and everyone knowing we are desperate. If Newcastle get to Ekitike first and Newcastle doesn't sell who's next?

I like Ekitike's profile but think he's overpriced (it's a seller's market) and am concerned that Frankfurt have rinsed a lot of teams with small-sample-size attackers in recent years.

I think Isak is brilliant but think he's overpriced (Newcastle don't need to sell) and am concerned he'll be a more expensive Thiago/Ox.

Either way, I don't like the idea of going into this season without buying a striker. And if we win three titles in a row before Isak breaks, I don't care what his resale value is.

The only situation suggested that I don't like is where Isak stays at Newcastle and Chelsea buy Ekitike because, well, why not.

Given the market and lack of strikers we’re bound to pay an inflated fee regardless, sadly.
We all knew this coming in to this window that we were probably not gonna get isak. Ekitike was always my preferred option.

The world of football has fuck all great strikers, so we need to make one

Personally, I think Ekitike is the forward that would suit our current system better. Plus, his fee would probably enable us to get another CF.

We need a hardworking CF who can score, but also drop back and assist, and help with the defensive transition whilst Salah cheats up top defensively.

Isak is more an out and out number 9 who is likely to stay up top cheating defensively with Salah. We'll be less secure defensively when pressing.

Having said that, I'll be happy with either signing. Both are quality players.

Isak world class now. Ekitike world class potential.

How / why are FSG spending like this when we always felt a player or two short during Klopps time?

Were they saving money until they got a DoF setup they trusted?

Were they just waiting for new investment?

I thought they might be waiting for FFP to kick in and deflate the market but that bubble hasn't popped yet.
To be fair, we were paying to finish build a new stand in the stadium.

A bit like when Arsenal were paying off the Emirates under Wenger, they barely spent.

As soon as it was paid off, and Arteta comes in, he's spending money like a drunken sailor. If only Wenger had that chance...
