Isakly what we need

Granted I don’t give a flying fuck about international football…but surely an international manager would at least think about the possibility that what’s best for his squad’s best player is to get fit and firing quickly for his new club - in order to be in the best shape to lead the line for Sweden in the future?

Isak’s been in the Sweden squad for ages, I’m sure he doesn’t need any extra intl bonding time when his club career has been so fraught over the summer. He could have been settling in at the Axa and getting up to speed with benefit to the next Intl round of matches.
Well their manager will feel content at the fact that there’s 8 months or so before Isak needs to have full fitness so won’t give a fuck about short term prospects at LFC.

Given they’ve managed one point in their first two games in qualifying, I’d have thought the next qualifiers are all he’s thinking about right now…

I don’t understand what we’re arguing here. I said I agreed as a LFC supporter, but that from the international team’s point of view, they’d have their own reasons. Which they do. Because they called him up.

I’m not looking to argue. It’s a forum and I was just digging into the Intl manager’s logic…I think that from an Intl team needs perspective (ie. The next round of qualifiers are pretty crucial to Sweden’s qualification) AND from our perspective, Isak would have better spent his time getting up to speed with settling into his new club after a summer of turmoil and getting up to full fitness in an elite club environment.

Given that there arent any players at The Axa during an international break you'd think its better for him to train with the Swedish international players and play some football rather than training on his own in Liverpool or with the U-18s etc. For match fitness at least.

As a Liverpool supporter I agree. But it makes sense for the manager of his country to want to have his best striker doing tactical work/training + bonding with his teammates with so little time left before the World Cup, considering how little time International managers have with their players.
Are Sweden going to make the WC though. Isn't it 2 per group go through?

Hang on. What about those not in an International squad? If there are any!

Was about to say the same. There’d be plenty enough players to train with…but more importantly he’d be finding his feet emotionally / psychologically and familiarising himself with the various play patterns he’ll need to onboard.
