It would be good if Diaz could stay another year, with so much chopping and changing up front.
Always gives his all, and a good player, who for some reason was more unpredictable in his early days.

There have been episodes this season where we questioned Diaz. The guy is 28, so if a £75m offer came in and they wanted to cash in, i wouldn't blame the club.
We have Gakpo and i am sure the club has a solution.

I wish that was true. He dribbles alot but he hardly dribbles past anybody. He helps us progress up the pitch that's true, but in the final 3rd it's sideways or backwards. I still cannot forget how the world class Dalot kept him honest 1v1, then Antony came on, he had just as much joy.

After seeing Gakpo on the left this season, I know I will much rather have someone who doesn't run with the ball as much, but bang, a goal or assist out of nowhere, than someone who runs with the ball the entire game and produces nothing.

Diaz is going. I agree with Fark. As good as he's been, doesn't make sense to re-sign him on big wages when Gakpo is here and Wirtz can play out there too.

He's got Saudi wages on the table offering him 200+K pw. He's not going to sign again with us on his current measly amount of 50K pw.

The stats nerds in our boardroom are going to look at it and say, his output won't likely get much better, and if there is a 90M offer on the table, that money can go towards a younger, faster winger in Gordon/N.Williams/Gittens signing who if we buy now for 65M (+ 25M wages) over 4 years, is a much better package than spending 30M in wages on Diaz himself, who will have little sell-on value after those 4 years, whereas Williams, Gordon, Gittens might be able to be sold on in 4 years when they are 24-28 years old, for the same amount of money that we bought them.

This is the moneyball approach.

Diaz is arguably our most consistent forward in terms of performances and being fit and available. I've always been open to selling him for big money, because he hasn't kicked on as we hoped he might, but it does need to be done with caution and shouldn't be done flippantly.

Decent players who give their all week in, week out and stay fit are what delivers title challenges and they don't grow on trees.

"His most productive position was LW" - this is backed up by what? Time on the ball? He was never productive and flattered to deceive even though he has had alot of the ball to produce something, perhaps 2nd only to Salah. His numbers were not even 10% of Salah's.

Anyway, it's water under the bridge, I won't bother with the stats game or whichever. He was shifted from the LW by Slot himself, so perhaps you can question why he did that and we won the league. He won't start in LW unless Gakpo is out or is being rotated, that much is clear.

It's backed up by his goals and assists per position.

Unless we're getting Rodrygo (we're not) I'd rather we get a young prospect in that could be world class in a few years. Malick Fofana is on record as wanting to play for us.

I would be against selling any established and major contributor to our title win. Including Diaz.

We shouldn't be weakening any position and with Wirtz, Frimpong and Kerkez we will have majorly strengthened the team.

Now isn't the time to be 'building for the future'. Now IS the future and with City in disarray and Arsenal missing key components, including a top class manager, we need to take advantage and win 21 & 22.

A similar opportunity avails itself in the CL.

Diaz won't be easy to replace at all - I think we have a double problem based on how he was used this season. I think Slot:

1. rates him and likes him but NOT as a left winger who can be effective for the full 90 mins - and I think Slot prefers Gakpo for that left win and rates him highly.
2. it was obvious he Diaz was just as effective or better as a striker/false 9 in our system and also having Gakpo on the left, plus his work rate is an added bonus.
3. If Gakpo was injured then Diaz became the obvious replacement.

The problem now is that whoever we get will have to deal with the fact that Gakpo is our main LW, and the player that comes in - what are we going to look at in him ? Finally - there is some other thing - we bought Gakpo in a January window when we realized that Diaz would not be playing for the rest of the season - it was essentially a mid-season replacement because we had no LW to play. So even if Diaz leaves is there any reason to replace him with another player who would normally be a first choice ? - I think if we don't sell Chiesa then we will not replace Diaz.

Williams played with a hernia issue, but still had a good season.

Williams would be great, younger and upgrade on Diaz. Not sure if ultimately Diaz wants to stay.
