What I find weird is that matchday revenues are such a small proportion of revenue, you'd think more owners would adopt the approach that they'd rather charge less to their passionate fans and ramp up the commercial side of things.
Whats this kind of increase gonna do over a year? Stick about £5m extra in the kitty... when their losses dwarf that?... When total revenue will be over £300m. I know it all adds up but taking the piss out of loyal fans seems counter productive to me.
I haven't got a season ticket this year and I'm not arsed.

You can't really isolate the ticket revenue you though. If supporters stopped going to the game, it'd cost way more than a 5M dip in revenue. They're the ones who buy the merchandise which in turn keeps the sponsors happy, pay for the subsciptions online which in turn keeps the advertisers coming in, eat the shit and drink the piss at the ground, and fill the fucking thing - and you can't sell corporate boxes into an empty stadium. Your average 40 quid ticket matchday going fan is worth 10 times that I'm imagine.
Which is why it seems counter productive to piss them off. City fans are going nuts... they protested at Arsenal last year at having to pay 62 quid and here they are now getting charged 57 by their own club. Loads are saying they'll fuck it off... and while most will continue going, why create this us and them thing?... why have your fans saying they aren't going to drink your piss at the ground on principle, when the best you can hope to achieve is the salary of one plodding squad player, in a year the TV revenues have just gone through the roof?
I agree completely for what its worth. But football tickets are so cheap compared to the gouging in North American sports, at least for franchises that dont have problems selling tickets.
Football tickets are just going to climb and climb to comparable prices, as thr corporations owning the franchises continue to globalize the game and maximise revenue.

Ridiculous that they cant fill the stadium. Is cost the primary cause of that? Or is City just not that well supported, even with recent success?
I've never met a City fan who was wealthy and I lived in Manchester for years.
They seem to be the 'salt o' the earth' type whereas filth fans are glory hunting daytrippers.
Just a thought, but the economic deprivation which surrounds East Manchester, which forms the core of City support, is, well, a bit poor, so maybe that's why the don't sell out?
Even with all the 'stars' they have it's a fucking chore to drag yourself up from Surrey to Ancoats!

It is almost as if they are buying the extra tickets themselves and claiming it as income.
It's a tough one for a club as I guess if those around you increase prices you get some fans saying "you've missed a trick not charging more for tickets" but at the end of the day I bet match day revenue would be higher if you filled the stadium and sold more goods around the ground.
I'd get all promo if I were at the club and do something like offer a £50 LFC shop voucher to all people renewing their season ticket as a show of faith. Only charge the new price to new holders who are maybe less price sensitive as they will likely be happy just to get the ST for that season.
Give all ticket holders for certain games a £5 voucher for the bar/cafés in the stadium to prompt people to actually buy a drink/ food etc.
