Other clubs transfer news (home and abroad)

Feel a bit sorry for Kelleher if Frank leaves, along with Mbuemo. I wonder if he'd held tight for another month whether Frank would have wanted him at Spurs instead.

It is pretty cheap.

Wirtz will have a lot of pressure given the price tag anyways but a comparable player at City moving for a third of the money will increase it massively.
How come they did it so quickly and we are taking forever !!! we paid 2/3 of Wirtz's value for for Nunez and Nunez like joined straight away - hell we had no say in it at all - the fucker just turned up.

The strange thing is, everyone knew he was available at that price, yet it was only really us and city interested. Half makes me wonder if there's some underlying attitude issues, or some other problems. Arsenal are screaming for creativity and they didn't try? United preferred mbuemo and Cunha? They experienced first hand what cherki can do.

He might have been like chiesa for us, low cost punt that might not work out. That's probably why we were interested

Something's amiss

Easier to pay 30m outright, than haggle over how 130m should be split. That's just obvious

Who knows. Perhaps the other clubs didn't bother because they knew one of the top clubs were going to get him.

Arsenal have Odegaard and Saka so Cherki isn't quite a natural fit for them I don't think.

He's been available for the last few transfer windows without any takers. The relatively low fee and lack of interest must surely mean its a gamble in terms of attitude, work rate or something similar. A gamble City can afford to make.

For us, Wirtz has been the priority and I'd rather sign him even if its more expensive.

Worth noting that Cherki has improved significantly this year, so I'm not sure clubs not moving for him previously is applicable. The talent was always there, but clubs will have been waiting for him to produce the numbers (in a weaker league) before moving for him. Time will tell who got the better deal. I'm confident Wirtz will be the better player - whether he's a better player by £70M will be the crux of the debate. Fingers crossed.

The talent has been known for several years as he has been that type of wonderkid, but no club has moved for him even with Lyon's financial trouble and that he has been "available".
I think its a valid point given reports about laziness, attitude issues and poor work rate.

Cherki has also been mostly successfull for Lyon as a right winger (including the 24/25 season), so its also a question about how suited he would have been for the role we see Wirtz playing.

Cherki is best played as a RW where his lack of pressing can be managed. And he'll be less effective than Mahrez out there and less effective than 33 year old Salah. And if they try and play him in the 8 position, he's not as good as David Silva/Gundogan/Macca. And if he's played in the 10 position, he's less effective than KDB.

Extremely talented? Yes. Effective? I'm not so sure.

He'll give as much offensively as he takes away from them defensively.

He doesn't strike me as a Pep system player, but I guess we'll see.

I'd be more concerned if they had signed Wirtz who seems a very Pep player; both need and tidy, tactically disciplined AND has the effectiveness/numbers comparable with a KDB.

Just because VVD cost 75m, doesn't mean I'd want to sign Smalling+Bailly+Lindelof, even if combined they were cheaper.

Tbh I liked the idea of him as a backup to mo. A different tactic for the wing, and that's an area of the pitch where the main guy doesn't have to defend anyway

Chelsea have had an offer worth more than £42m for English winger Jamie Gittens rejected by Borussia Dortmund.

The 20-year-old already has a seven-year contract on the table and is thought to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City have completed the (initial) £46.3m signing of midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan.

So how much in add ons for a slightly above average player?!

So much for Peps I'll quit unless I have a small squad threat.

Kev is leaving
I'm sure a few others that I've not seen but that's what 7 players since Jan? And nearly 300 million
