The Defence

True, but very much from the outside looking in he didn't seem overly desperate to join us in the summer. And top players tend to be pretty confident, so I'd imagine he'd think he has years ahead of him to win the big trophies.

I hope I'm wrong, he jumps at the chance of joining us in January and Palace don't stand in his way, but these are just potential problems
What came across was that Guehi is a lovely person and loyal to his club (he is the captain). However he had already signed a contract with us. He was very keen on the move and I doubt money is his motivation (if for example Chelsea were to come i for him in January - though not moving house and his children to a new school may vibe with him and more especially his wife).

He isn't the issue. Glassner is. I hope behind closed doors that we told him we'd be back in January and that the Palace CEO told Glassner to find a replacement for him because they are not willing to lose the £25-30m fee (because of our situation CP are in the driving seat on price here) and that whether Glassner likes it or not he's leaving come 1st Jan.

Yeah, we're probably going to pay a higher fee now than we normally would have because of our situation with Leoni, and we also need someone homegrown or English. So, they've kinda got us over a barrel, unless Bajectic comes back and looks like a monster in training.

yea i also think he’s keen to get palace some sort of fee out of loyalty or whatever which might suit our needs. that might dwindle though as he starts to get big offers from elsewhere

Bajcetic can play CB? Thought he was solely a DM?

Bajcetic, who arrived from Celta Vigo in February 2021, has benefited from being switched from centre-back to defensive midfielder, although Inglethorpe explains the 18-year-old's arm didn't need much twisting.

"As elegant as he was as a centre-back, we wondered whether he'd have more opportunity if he moved up a line," he says. "Interestingly, I spoke to Stefan around that time and he said his dad, who is a former player, had always said he'd end up a midfielder. I don't think we were pushing against a closed door with our decision to move Stefan.
Stefan is a really great lad to work with. It was no problem for him. He is doing really well."

On switching from centre-back into midfield…

I had always been a centre-back but sometimes I used to play a bit higher as well. But although I was usually a central defender, I was quite good at getting out with the ball and then Bridgey [Marc Bridge-Wilkinson] and Alex [Inglethorpe] thought it was a good idea to put me in midfield and I guess it has worked!

I'm naturally quite a defensive player and I like to defend but I also like to attack when I have the opportunity, so it means I have the chance to do both by playing in there.
The impact of the staff at the Academy has been very big. With the move to midfield, Bridgey was aiding me a lot in terms of how to receive the ball, how to get myself oriented and know what's around me – and that has helped me a lot. Alex has always given me tips as well. I have always been learning from them and I still am.

The Jan transfer opens in 2 months, there is no need to panic.
Should the club go for a loan player or go for someone whose contract ends in 2026. Personally I think we need 2. Marc Guehi for £15m plus one other, either Marcos Senesi or Eric Garcia.

I think Kerkez has a lot of developing to do, for now Robbo should still be our number 1 left back, allowing Kerkez to work on his game on the training pitch and biding his time.
