UK General Election 24/25

We're not a serious country at all.
While the prime minister stands, trying to make the most epic of speeches that'll go down the annals of history. While the rain pours down
Someone is playing D:Ream things can only get better

I haven't been paying a huge amount of attention to Starmer, but my impression is that he's not very different to the Tories? Or at least, not different enough?

He is a Tory in a red tie..

He even marked Labour as the 'real conservatives', allowed right wing Tories to defect to Labour, a known Thatcher admirer. ..

Everything that isn't core Labour essentially..

The you have of course Labour friends of Israel that pull the strings in terms of policy alignment ...

I'm voting A N other, like many I know, that's for sure..

Labour will win, but it won't be the landslide we are expecting. That's for sure.

I'm not Starmer's biggest fan, but I do accept Labour's need to be centre-leaning if they are to win elections in present and near future.

The country will shift back more towards the left as the boomers and gammons start to die out, but as it stands Labour have to appeal to a broader voter base as they can. For Labour now victory is inevitable. They need to ensure to build enough of a majority to make them overwhelming favourites for the the election that follows this one.

This right here is as good a distillation of why the left will never gain power as you’ll ever see - ideological purity is paramount - and it’s a large part of the reason the Tories have been so successful electorally.

It does have a bit of "cutting your own nose off to spite your face" about it. Surely most sane people would do anything to get rid of the current Tories and Labour are in the best place to do it.

John Major's Tory party seem like a bunch of competent tree huggers compared to this lot. Even if they did wear Chelsea tops while having affairs.

I wouldn't worry because it won't happen.

Hardly anyone will be bothered that Starmer isn't left wing enough because the vast majority of people aren't that engaged.

Even among those who might want Starmer to be more left wing, most of them will still vote for him.

Probably - but the minute he walks in the door the left will be trying to oust him as vehemently if not more so than the right.

And they’ll succeed - it’s just a question of whether it’s within one term or two.

Doubt it. There aren't that many MPs who are on the left anyway, a few of them have been pushed out and I understand that Starmer has pretty much made sure that the majority of new candidates are not on the left.

Also - and this probably won't shock you - the group of lefty MPs within the Labour Party tend to fall out with each other a lot too and aren't especially organised.

I mean, noone on the left ever really tried to oust Blair.

Gove won't stand for MP next election.
Feels like a whole generation of Tories won't be around.

I'll be voting labour, but like others, through gritted teeth. Unlike the last election, it seems people are willing to vote for "the lesser evil", rather than being so dogmatic like they were over the lies about Corbyn. Never seen so much fuss made about one man who didn't do anything to deserve it (for me at least)
Starmer has broken nearly every one of his leadership pledges, and seems to be living more off "look how shit the tories are", rather than any ideology or plans for the future. Labour will probably win in spite of starmer, rather than because of him.
I hate where we're at as country, and where we are politically as a country. COVID didn't do enough

One of the pettiest things they brought against Corbyn was when he pronounced Epstein like Epshtein. Further proof, if needed, of his rampant anti-semitism...

Corbyn calling Israel out and standing with Palestine doesn't seem such a bad call all of a sudden.

Yeah but at the same time he wanted to be friends with Russia and get rid of our nuclear deterrent.

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh..

He wanted the war stopped and doesn't believe in using nuclear weapons. Are they that bad an opinion? I'd hope most rationale people would think the same

If the tories being fucked out fixed everything it would be ace. But they've fucked so much. It's kinda like the dude who burned your village down died of natural causes. Hardly worth celebrating

I can never understand brand loyalty when the same organisation fucks you over time after time.

Yeah of course he did. So sayeth the Daily Mail.

The problem with Corbyn is he adamantly opposes all military action - he has repeatedly said so.

Now that’s fine, and to an extent commendable - no one of sound mind should actually ”want” war, but there is a point diplomacy fails and action must be taken - With Putin, there is no diplomatic solution that doesn’t involve just giving him what he wants.

Corbyn is too welded to doctrine to be an effective leader.

I'm waiting on Laura Keunsssbeerrrrgh to announce that they're actually Labour councillors.
