WHEN Lucho goes…

i wouldn’t say innocent but he clearly wants some security beyond his current contract which, from his pov, others are getting.

however unluckily for him his contract expiry coincides with the age we think he’ll decline and given that there are big offers on the table for him right nowit just makes too much financial sense for us to let him leave.

we know what he wants so we’re kind of forcing him to go get that elsewhere. we have been respectful in that we’re not pushing him out directly and he has been largely respectful by not being disruptive and not complaining directly to the media.

i think this is fine and sensible all round, i understand each parties position and how they’ve both acted to get the desired outcome.

that’s all, good luck luis. i thought he was a really passionate, hard working player with a lot of skill and we might miss him in the coming season.

I can't believe I'm the only one here who thinks Diaz is innocent.

Edwards and Hughes are the ones pushing him out. They WANT the deal to go through, despite what they say publicly.

He's pushing 29, deal runs out a year from now. They don't want to give him a new contract, his value is never going to be higher than it is now. OF COURSE we want to sell him and buy Isak replace him with a younger potentially better player.

How convenient that he suddenly wants to go to Bayern of all place just as we want to blow some serious cash.

He's not a money grubbing cunt. WE are the cunts. We've probably been sending his CV all over Saudi, sending photobooks of Oktoberfest to his Dad, and showing him photos of Mo's cheque and saying you'll never have that. I don't believe for a moment he would have wanted out unless we've manipulated him into it.
All he has to do is say no, and he’d be at the club for three more years (or whatever’s left on his contract). You’re being very naive.

We know what he wants. He knows we know. We know he is being reasonable. We've told him he won't be getting an offer - ever. If you guys think that (i) Luis Diaz doesn't want to play with Wirtz and Isak, or (ii) Richard Hughes wants a 28 year old running down his contract and leaving on a free in 2027....

I'm not the naive one, that's for sure.

So much for the club coming out and saying he's "not for sale"

Never understood why clubs make a fool of themselves with all that bullshit, every fan knows if a player wants to go and an interested party comes to the table with an offer we all know is very good......that 99% of times, the fucker is going.

Deal agreed for 65m, apparently we tried to sign him on a new contract but he turned down 2 offers

Shame, sad to see him go because I think he's much better than he gets credit for. But that's a decent fee, hopefully they treat him better than Sadio and he does well

We said he's not for sale unless you want to pay, and then they did.

It's been clear we want to sell him for some time. We are just doing the little dance.

We were more willing to sell assume as he was ever willing to sign a new contract. Where is this all talk we were unwilling to extend his talk coming from? Pretty sure we would have tried and if he is on 50k a week then that’s his fault over 4yrs with us.

Clearly the clubs briefing we tried to extend but he didn't want to. He's tweaked for Barca for so long they've got bored

Quality player but inconsistent and he's not undoubtedly world class like Mane was.

We're probably selling him at the right time for the most amount of value. A bit like the Mane sale.

However, the sale only makes sense if we replace him with a world class CF (Isak), so at least 2 of our 3 forward players would be world class (and Ekitike/Rio have the potential to grow into world class players too).

We were willing but not at the price he wanted, and at that point we let it be known we would be willing to let him run down his contract rather than renew.

I think that is fair. Presume we didn’t value him to the level he thought he was. Very few players we have renewed worthy neared their own terms like Salah and Virgil.

I'd be interested to know what wages Bayern are offering. I doubt it would be much more than £140k a week.

It feels like Diaz and our side both want this done and both have known that for a long while. I'm not convinced its all about wages.

Fuck it, exciting player to watch but Ekitike could be more so. We need to get Isak done though, or Ekitike will be playing 9, not helping cover LW.

He is no Mane but his contributions are a bit underrated on here. We will miss the attitude and drive he bought to the table. At the same time, previously we gave one contract too far or kept them for a year too late for a couple of players and paid the price. If we can nail his replacement, this might be a win win for everyone. Bundesliga will be gentler league for Diaz as his physical abilities decline.

According to post #165, Euros 14m a year.

why would a club not do that? i can’t see any upside to admitting a player is for sale unless the club hates the player and are desperately trying to get rid, like a couple of players at united currently.

Because you end up looking like a cunt and it gives gullible fans wrong signals. You don’t need to admit to anything, tell them pay us what we want or fuck off and that’s it. What if Bayern took it literally and backed away?

Liverpool have agreed to sell Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich for £65.5million (€75 million) after it emerged that two attempts to extend his contract had failed.

Díaz has been granted permission to leave the club’s pre-season tour in Tokyo, Japan, and undertake a medical with the German champions, which has been scheduled for Tuesday. A four-year contract, with an option for a further 12 months, has been proposed.

Bayern’s proposal, which is inclusive of add-ons, represents an improved bid of about £7million on their initial offer, which was immediately rejected.

Liverpool had not wanted to sell Díaz, resisting his initial attempts to leave in the summer of 2024 to ensure he played a role in the club’s Premier League title success last season.

However, the player and his representatives have continued to push for an exit when two rounds of contract negotiations were unable to broker an agreement.

It is understood that there was an insurmountable gap between the offers pitched by Liverpool and the demands made by Díaz’s agent for his client, who had two years remaining on his deal.

There had also been interest in Díaz from Barcelona and the Saudi Pro League, but Bayern have been able to match the Anfield club’s asking price.

Diaz cost £39million rising to a potential £50million when signing from FC Porto in January 2022. However, just over £3million in add-ons have been triggered since his arrival.

He was left out of head coach Arne Slot’s match-day squad for the 4-2 friendly defeat by AC Milan on Saturday and his departure will help balance out some of Liverpool’s spending this summer.

Slot has spent about £290million on Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Hugo Ekitike.

The fee for Díaz follows the £60million brought in through the sales of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah and Caoimhin Kelleher, and there is the prospect of more outgoings.

Darwin Núñez is a target for Saudi Pro League clubs and players such as Federico Chiesa, Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton are primed for moves.

Liverpool believe they have strength in attacking options but retain an interest in Alexander Isak, although Newcastle United have so far said their striker, who wants to leave, is not for sale.

There is a need to bring in defensive reinforcements after the sale of Quansah.

Joe Gomez has returned to Merseyside with an achilles injury, leaving the captain, Virgil van Dijk, and Ibrahima Konaté as the club’s only recognised senior centre backs.

The club have been scouting young centre halves in Europe, having been unable to land Levi Colwill, Leny Yoro and Dean Huijsen across three successive summers.

They like Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi, who has entered the final year of his contract and is not likely to sign an extension, but are unlikely to be drawn into a saga over the England international.

you know bayern and Liverpool have been in talks over this for a few weeks now and that’s essentially what we’ve been telling them? they’ve finally hit or got close enough to what we want… deal done

we don’t care about gullible fans or looking like cunts. if it didn’t work out and diaz stays then there’s nothing to see, he was never for sale.

Exactly, sure we could do with the cash, but Diaz had two more years and could still play a big role for us.
So yeah, our front was "we dont want to sell", but we candidly let it be known that offers were welcome.

This is a lot of change isn't it? Good deal for everyone I guess, but we're such a different side next season now.
yea its a bit chelsea this. maybe its good to rip the plaster off.

not convinced doaz and quansah are great sales at this time but still plenty of window left.

We're trying to set ourselves up for the long run by doing a full overhaul. Its what we did with the midfield 2 years ago, now it's the forwards and full backs turn. Next year might be the CB and GK turn.

He definitely wanted to go to Barca. They wanted him too by all accounts but couldn't afford it.

The move to Bayern works well for all parties in this case I think. He's not worth 250-300K a week to us or whatever it is he wants but maybe he is to someone else.

I agree he's underrated and we will miss him unless we end up signing someone better. Gakpo has his purple patches but wouldn't like to rely on him over the course of a season unless he really improves.

what’s going on with your font?

i agree, the football side of the club all seems to be aligned, prepared and ruthless. a tough time to revamp the front line but that’s not stopping us.
