[article]Liverpool owner John W Henry will hand Brendan Rodgers a £60million summer transfer kitty if he qualifies for the Champions League.

Henry and his fellow backers have been delighted with the way Rodgers has made progress to challenge for the title and are planning to give him a new bumper three-year contract before the end of this season.

To help negotiations, Liverpool will make it clear they are happy to back Rodgers in the transfer market should he secure a top-four place.

Rodgers wants to sign two centre-halves, a left-back, creative midfielder, winger and back-up striker to compete on four fronts next season.

He has already been linked with Ukraine winger Yevhen Konoplyanka of Dnipro, Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan, Switzerland left-back Ricardo Rodriguez and Cardiff City centre-back Steven Caulker.

Henry is also willing to improve the 41-year-old’s £2m-a-year contract but can wait to sit down with Rodgers as he still has 15 months left on his current deal with the club holding a further 12-month option after that.

Rodgers took over from Kenny Dalglish in the summer of 2012 and his side go to Manchester United next Sunday as genuine contenders to win their first league title since 1989-90.

They last played in the Champions League in 2009.[/article]

No quotes but I can't see him not getting a nice extension if he gets us into the top 4.

What 'quotes' do you expect?

The information is either made up or from a secret source. In neither situation should you expect quotes.

Maybe 60 million before sales. So lets make it around 65 million (As long as we don't sell Suarez)!

2 more CB's?

Skrtel and Agger will be sold then.
No right back? Guess Glenjo is staying put.
The rest are needed.

but I think its all bullcrap

I reckon we do better with tiny budgets.Medium sized targets work for us. $60m - we say what pressure that kind of budget put on kenny

Or how much Comolli enjoyed throwing stats at the owners to tell them how much Downing and Carroll would be worth as a pair.

Well, it's a clearly made up speculative article, but it does seem reasonable to suggest we'll spend more in the summer to try and build up a squad that presently wouldn't cope with the demands of European football.

It's not going to be an easy task. At the moment there is a nice balance in the squad (youth vs experience, merit over reputation by and large), which I'd hope Rodgers will be looking to preserve. There is always a risk of disrupting what you have when you buy new players in and that risk can only increase when you buy in bulk.

GK: Mignolet, Reina, Jones
CB: Skrtel, Agger, Sakho, Toure, Illori, Coates
FB: Johnson, Enrique, Flanagan, Kelly, Wisdom, Mclaughlin, Robinson
CM: Gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Lucas
AM: Coutinho, Alberto, Suso, Teixeira
FW: Sturridge, Suarez, Sterling, Aspas, Borini, Assaidi, Ibe

If you assume that the ones crossed out are definitely on their way out whereas the italicized names are candidates for being loaned out (largely on account of being youth players that haven't quite broken through properly yet), that leaves us needing 4-5 players before we sell anyone that actually gets played regularly!

Tricky situation to manage. We have a lot of young players on the fringes of breaking through in some capacity (be it with the end goal of a sale or place in the team) and whilst you could keep them around as extra bodies, that may be damaging in the long-term.

Would like to think we'd be spending more than £60m if we make Champions League.

Do you want the club to exist in a few years time ?

We've lost about 140m in the last three years, CL money puts us in a position to break even.

We really don't need to splash over £60m anyway. We've got a good squad, we'll just need two or three more to bolster it for Europe.

Those 2 or 3 would probably have to be in the 15-25m bracket

Like we've said a million times, we just need to start being clever with our money. I don't think I can stomach another Summer of the same posters fretting everytime we don't buy an over priced player that they've never heard of.

The people they replace will be sold as well, so it would balance out below £60m Imo. Even so, i don't think we need to spend that much on all three, as Mark says, we just need to be clever.

How do we only need 2-3?

CB, LB, CM, AM are positions we need to buy for and get some quality in, before bolstering the squad. We'll need about 6-7 before sales.

You are setting yourself up for major disappointment bro...

Its what we do!

You underestimate how much better our squad would be if Moses was Konoplyanka, Cissokho was Montoya and we had Rakitic competing in midfield.

Theyre pie in the sky names btw, not saying we should sign them specifically, besides Konoplyanka that is.

frracking holy sheiße, that seems too much to believe and I hope we wont do that...i just hate the idea of wholesale shopping in the summer. IMO, it is better to keep the mix of young talent already at the club plus some experience, too many new faces suddenly in the first team doesnt gel together so easily. Not good for the harmony, to say in a different sense. So I think we should go one by one and make this rebuilding process exactly at the current rate, I am almost 90% satisfied with the current buys we had in the past 1-2 windows, although an first team attacking signing could have made us look almost complete for the current season.

The fee is irrelevant imho. We need quality players in certain positions on the field.
Find the right type of players that will improve the team. If they cost 2 mill or 15 mill it doesnt matter, just get the players we need. There are some potentially great transfers value wise to be done.

Does anyone know what da latest vibe on Montoya is?

He was going to be out of contract this summer. Would be rad if we could sign him on a free.
