He used to have great stats on Champ a few years ago and he'd be a rock at the centre of my defence.

Does that help any?

Beat me to it, so that's you me both Keni. Must be shit hot.

The Greek did earn himself another year. I think it was in his contract that if he played a certain number of matches he would be offered an extension or something like that. I could of sworn I seen him pass me on a motorbike the other day.

Udinese defender Cristian Zapata has revealed that he is close to agreeing a deal with Liverpool.

The Colombia international is rated as one of the best defenders in Serie A and he played a major role in helping them into the UEFA Champions League next season.

He is currently back in South America preparing for the Copa America, but he has revealed that he is in talks about leaving Italy.

The 24-year-old has stated that Liverpool and Bayern Munich have both made moves for his signature, but he admits that he is close to sealing a switch to Anfield.

Very close

Asked about his future by La FM, he said: "I do not know what to say, I can say that I am very close to Liverpool.

"At the end of the Copa America, we will see what happens with my future.

"I have gained experience, but the time has come for me to make the jump to a big team."

Zapata, who has been with Udinese for four years, plays in central defence but is also capable of playing in either full-back position.

A previous target of Arsenal, Zapata currently has two years left on his contract at the Stade Friuli.

If we get this guy and we've been offered 10M for Agger as rumoured then I'd bite their hand off taking that deal.

Have to say if it's true and we sign him then I really like the way this happened under the radar.

Twitter eat your heart out.

Me too. He was aces. Fingers crossed.

Well if Championship Manager says he's boss he must be. I mean Nicky Forster turned out boss didn't he ?

I've got a good feeling about Zapata.

*I've never seen him play before*

I presume this will be a £10m 70k p/w jobby ?

He has great stats in FM + an ace name, why would you need to see him play?

What's not to like about Zapata 🙂

Can play anywhere across the backline if we need him, although he's most comfortable as centre back.

Good leader and plays with a maturity you'd see in a veteran - all this being highlighted through him being the vice captain.

If I was to pick the top players at Udinese, it would be - Sanchez, Zapata, Di Natale & Isla would be the ones that I think can cut it at bigger clubs.

He's been a wanted man but for some reason deals have never gone through.

I recall 2 season ago Arsenal and Real Madrid were very interested in signing him ... I think the rumoured fee back then was 9M, which even then IMO was a bargain and worth the gamble ... he's only gone to improve since then.

Quite excited with this link ... his style reminds me a lot of Ivan Cordoba in his prime for Inter.

I'd like to know the price before making a better evaluation of the signing ... he'd definitely be a big improvement to our defence, but he's not reached his full potential just yet.

Cheers Roopy. I knew you're Serie A obsession would actually become useful one day 😉

Cordoba was a dirty swine. Is Zapata a tough bastard Roopey? So Comolli found a player he didnt see on MOTD, ha. Haters gonna hate.
