How we balance it out? I think you're overcomplicating the theory, we can still play good pass and move football, when the pass is on you play it, when the cross is on you cross it, how hard can it be? We scored alot of goals during our good spell under Kenny last season from crosses.
 
Crossing the ball in for someone to get on the end of carries a greater element of playing percentages.

I don't know how many goals we scored off direct running and punting the ball in (however good that shape of the cross looks), but I do recall us displaying some pretty good movement at times and carving out genuine chances. Maxi for example was the beneficiary of some pretty easy goals towards the end.

I'm not saying we're playing a Barca style of pass and move that tries to eliminate percentages as much as possible - crosses can still have their place - but as I said, it'll be interesting to see how it all fits together in the end.

I think Pennant is a good example of how stats can be misleading, fair dos, I just think people think of crossing and worry it's harking back to the worst of what we have seen in the last decade, punting the ball in hoping something happens. I think Downing is better than that, he's got brains for starters so he's already one up on Pennant. Suarez played some brilliant balls into the box last season, so did Ming and we benefited from it a few times. It's just about variation. I'd like to see us playing sexy football but I want to see us win aswell, there's no point being one trick pony's like Arsenal.
 
We were really shite at crossing last season, I'll see if I can find the stats. Read them earlier today actually.
Aston Villa had the 2nd highest percentage of crosses and goals....
