Gettin’ Guehi with it

If he was prepared to see out his contract and leave for free while having Liverpool as his preferred destination and got to a point where he’d agreed terms and was, effectively, sitting with pen in hand ready to sign a contract - then I’d be pretty confident if we want the deal to happen, then it will.

He’s shown no inclination to go elsewhere so far.

While he can’t sign a pre-contract with us - it would be naive to assume we aren’t speaking to him to ensure that he does sign when the next opportunity arises.

I don't trust Konate/Gomez to remain fit. We still have another 2 thuggish teams to face before the next transfer window in Real Madrid and Everton, the rest I am not worried about as they don't try and do stupid shit to other players (we got through the Newcastle boys).

Forgive me but I am kind of paranoid with VVD on int. duty, and then after Burnley we have to face Everton - was it not like that last time i.e. facing Everton early who were issued a command to damage VVD through that prick goalkeeper ? - given they got their new stadium - I have no doubt with Grealish they will be on a mission to f*ck us up and our new signings.

I doubt Pickford got instructions to do what he did that time. He regularly has brainf@rts for club and country - this was just one more.

And yes, Everton will play like junkyard dogs against us, but they always have and always will.

Just need to check his water bottle to see if there’s a picture of a T-Rex trying to chomp off the leg of a golden god on it next to what way to dive for Mo’s penalties (which at the minute would involve the use of a stepladder to get up on top of the bar).

The silence from Guehi is really noticeable. No public toys out of pram, no withdrawal of service.

Got to admire the attitude, good things come to those who wait

I have to say it makes me cringe the way the media always try to bait him with discussions about his Dad and his own religiosity.

I'm a liberal guy, but I don't get why there's a lack of respect towards people of faith. Not every person who has faith should be judged to be problematic.

His dad’s a pastor. It’s not in his nature.

Can the lyricists start working on a tune for Marc please.

To the tune of
Son of a preacher man.

Slots the only one he wanted to play for
He's our red centre back man.
Marc Guehi he will pass and score
Hes our red centre back man.
Yes he is yes he is

No offence man, but my whole spine just contorted reading that.

[Joyce] Liverpool will not revisit their interest in Marc Guehi in January and would only now sign the Crystal Palace centre-back on a free transfer next summer

Good.

Makes sense, but hopefully we act sensibly when Konate or Gomez gets injured

sounds like we’re aware it’ll be bad value in january, it would really need to be a pittance for their captain to be worthwhile and that doesn’t seem like it’ll work.

if any of our cb’s want to come off injured in late december i’d be asking them to jog off with a smile on their faces.

this probably works out best for guehi really, aside from losing a season at a better club, he’ll have loads of ammo to negotiate with. he probably deserves it for his conduct.

Why good? He could be invaluable for a run at the CL and the PL together.
Good, because we can't look desperate. It would be in our best interest to sign Guehi in January and I believe we will.
We can talk about his character and that he's a good lad or whatever, but in the end money talks. He can easily get a 250k p/w offer from other teams.

It doesn't make sense to respond "Good" to Joyce's tweet and then say it would be in our best interest (as I agree it would) to sign Guehi in January. Did you mean it's good that the club is trying to give the impression of not being desperate?

As for the second half of your post, Guehi has been widely reported only to want Liverpool.

Exactly that.

I'm not sure how missing out on being in the Quadruple winning squad is a positive!

Liverpool will not revisit their interest in Marc Guéhi in January and will only now seek to sign the Crystal Palace centre back on a free transfer next summer.

A £35million move to Anfield for the England defender collapsed on deadline day when Palace chairman, Steve Parish, pulled the plug on the deal at the eleventh hour after failing to secure a replacement.

Guéhi, 25, had completed a medical and was left angry at the development having informed Palace of his desire to join the Premier League champions.

He will have to wait until next summer in order to do so now with Liverpool adamant they will not dip into the market in January for a player who has entered the final year of his contract and will not sign an extension.

If Guéhi’s ambition to move to Arne Slot’s side holds firm then Parish will see the player leave for nothing having previously said that would pose a financial “problem” for the club.

Parish had spoken to Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes after the Community Shield game between the clubs at the start of August and was informed of their £35million valuation.

Silence then ensued, with Liverpool subsequently tabling a bid for that amount, plus a 10 per cent sell-on clause on August 30.

That proved acceptable for Parish, only for a U-turn to then take place when he came under pressure from manager Oliver Glasner, as Brighton & Hove Albion defender Igor Julio backed out of a switch to Palace.

Liverpool’s complement of centre backs was already strong with a £26million deal for Parma’s Giovanni Leoni, 18, ending a three-year search for a young talent that they can develop.

Interest from AC Milan and Brighton in Joe Gomez on deadline day — the Serie A side had proposed a €15million (about £13million) deal — was not allowed to progress, and so with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté in situ there is no sense that they are understrength in that department.

However, Konaté’s future remains uncertain. The France defender has entered the final year of his own deal and long-standing attempts to persuade him to sign a new contract remain at an impasse.

Real Madrid have been identified as potential suitors next summer and, while Liverpool do not want to lose the player, they will not beg anyone to remain at Anfield.

I mean we aren't likely to show our hand now are we?

Its all posturing.

Only other thing we could have said is "we'll consider a bid if the price is right".

Right now we are in a strong position.

I bet Palace will try to delay it until the end of January and piss Guehi off some more.

I think Guehi will push for a move and we'll offer them peanuts. The club will have given up on Konate by that point and Guehi will believe he has a very good chance of lifting a title in May. Plus Gomez will soon be wiped out for the year.

If we've got a decent gap, then I think he might. If it's close, or if palace are doing well, then I don't think he will
