I wonder if true will this create an opening for Stevie to come back

Stevie G shouldnt get the U-23s right away. If it creates an opening with someone else from the Acadamy getting promoted and Stevie G getting that job, fine.

Yeah I'm with Hansern on this one.
No chance in hell that Klopp is going to give him that role right away.

He could quite easily take the U23s in my opinion. Some people forget everything that he has done in football, all the medals and caps he has won, respect he has earned, managers he has played under etc. I understand he shouldn't walk straight into the managers position but cut him some slack. Some on here would like him to start cleaning boots again or making cups of tea for the dinner ladies!

The U23s are our future, it's an important role. He would be in charge of developing them. I think he should have the same role Rob Jones, Fowler and Macca have. Be in and around the academy for a while or be a coach within the academy. Then take over the U23s or whatever.

Kenny Dalglish started as the manager at Liverpool.
Having learned from one of the best managers to be in the game, whilst showing an extraordinary amount of intelligence

Gerrard has done neither

If Gerrard gets the under 23 post then whats the point?

He's shown he can win matches, but not shown he can motivate players
He had his best seasons whilst being free to roam, how can he educate youth on tactics?

He needs to earn his stripes.

Yup

He needs to learn the setup as youth teams emphasise different things to the first team. They are there primarily to educate, not go all out all action like gerrard did in his pomp. He needs to be able to get players to control their passion and instil a tactical nuance in to every player

I really don't believe he could do that

Dennis Bergkamp started with the under 12s at Ajax.
Haha, well I'm not advocating anything that drastic but still, I think anyone wanting to become a manager should at least have to prove himself for a year before taking over a team. Ancelotti started as an assistant to Sacchi.
Rijkaard and Koeman were both assistants to Guus Hiddink.

My point was more that it's irrelevant that Berkamp became u12s coach first just as it's irrelevant dalglish took the reigns straight away. Everyone is different. I am sure Gerrard will be judged fairly and will end up with a decent job at liverpool and England.

He can learn from me though. I am the best manager in this league. I'll teach stevie all he needs to know about the heavy full throttle gengen pressing.

Nothing unfair about starting with the u12s...

The U23s are a copy of the first team in style, tactics and that's why they integrate so perfectly when they step up. I'd love to see Stevie progress through the ranks but he knows nothing of Klopp/Buvac's training and tactics and so that isn't the right position for him.

Not sure what your point is. How can you say Gerrard never showed he can motivate players or educate someone on tactics?

Very easily. When Stevie was skipper any meaningful motivation of others was done by Carra while Stevie was too busy tearing strips off them for not being as good as he was, and Rafa played him wide or just behind the striker whenever he could precisely because Stevie - fabulous individual player though he obv.was - didn't have the tactical discipline to hold his position in CM. I'm genuinely concerned that slotting Stevie into a coaching job for which he's done bugger all to show he's suitable could turn out to be a bad move for both him and the club.

Exactly

I am worried people think "ability to play" means "ability to coach"

What Gerrard had cannot be taught. He was power and passion.

Has he even done his coaching badges? If he has managerial aspirations he should really take a year out studying at the best clubs in the world as he would obviously have access to sitting in on their varying coaching methods.

Think I read that he's done most of the coaching badges

Can't motivate players?
Absolute bollox.
He motivated players constantly and made some fairly average players look good.
You're too cool for school hatred towards Gerrard that you've shown on here for years is tragic.

Hatred? Really?

I've often thought it must be difficult for players like Fowler and Gerrard to coach, because they're just so astonishingly gifted

How could God teach a kid how to finish like him? You can't coach what God had, surely?

But then there's plenty of amazingly gifted players who are good at coaching (and also managing). Bergkamp, Heighway, Guardiola

So I have come to the conclusion that your ability as a player has fuck all to do with how good you are as a coach, manager, footballer or pundit

So we won't know until he tries

Yep that last bit is very true.
Who would have thought a translator with a clipboard would become the world's most sought after manager.
It's all guesswork and people thinking they know who's going to be a good coach is really stupid.
