Wharton Earth

There's too much noise over this, and we've been chasing him too long. It's inevitable...

... that we're going to dither and pull out at the last minute because "the overall financial package did not make sense once Utd/Bayern came into the picture"

city you mean? they’re paying us back for the super hack

Is he really a number 8? I thought he was a deep lying CM? Admittedly I don't watch Palace in detail.

I know it seems like my whole raison d'etre is being tediously pedantic about which players work best where...

...but do we really need another number 8 to shoehorn into a double pivot?

Right now we need a CB and at least one proper number 6.
Replacement for Gravy as he plays CB for next 6 months

I endorse this message.

The main thing I like about this player is he can pass forward well and between the lines. Gravy isn't a good risk taker when it comes to passing forward. He dithers and the space closes down.

He would very much help replace one of TAA's skill contribution from deep. Our only reliable player that we have that attempts this is from the back is Joe Gomez, who is always injured.

Don't believe this happens in Jan though. Will be pleasantly surprised if it does.

you’re right there are other more pressing matters but i have few complaints if this move happens.

macallister has been poor this season, rumoured to fancy spain and a wharton / macallister exchange was mentioned quite a while back. if those things are true then it sounds like it might even be a rare example of us being organised ahead of time.

I wouldn't write off Macca just yet, given just about everyone bar Szobo has looked utterly dreadful for the best part of a year.

yea he was one of my favourite players before this season where he just doesn’t look right

He’s a 6 but not really a physical player imho. He can dictate play and the game but I want another profile of midfielder, Mamadou Sangare

Yes, I know about his passing, which we do need. We also need defensive quality and athleticism in midfield though, hence my reluctance.
