I liked momo's strength and mobility but gave the ball away every other pass, lucas is almost the exact opposite. I do think we need to compress the play which will make us harder to play through and lucas will need to cover less ground.

I'd agree with that. We left gaping holes in midfield at the weekend and the amount of time Lucas ended up tearing across to cover Adam got a bit silly, especially when Adam started running out of puff. The sooner Stevie is fully fit the better,

gerrard isn't going to fix that, if there are gaps in midfield (because the defense is too deep) lucas will still have to cover big distances and gerrard natrual instincts are to play further upfield. with the return of gerrard we'll create more chances, no question but I don't think we'll suddenly become more solid as a team even if it's a midfield trio of lucas, gerrard and adam but gerrard will leave gaps down the right as he moves infield.

Partly agree and disagree Neil. Gerrard can stray forward I agree with that but his natural ability means he'll cover more ground than Adam ever could. Because of that I think there'll be less gaps plus the added advantage of being much more of a potent attacking force from midfield.

I think the return of gerrard will mean we will spend more time in the opposition half, therefore less time in our half, therefore the opposition have less chances to score against us. but that doesn't = more solid, that just means we'll be limiting the amount of times the opposition can get at our shaky defense.

I was not in even the slightest of huffs Kenny and nobody has mentioned a ban. I will get in a huff though because you're calling me a twat and a fucker after I gave you a little ribbing - I can't see an insult in there from me to you. I'm beyond getting arsed what people think about Lucas as opinions are completely polarised on the subject including mine.

Lucas isn't playing too well at the moment, he looks tired, but that's understandable.

However, he is the best defensive midfielder we have. To suggest Kuyt could do a better job, despite having never played there is completely bizarre.

Lucas also looks more exposed currently as Adam is so bloody slow, that's a huge factor IMO.

I'd like us to play three in the centre on Sat, but doubt Kenny agrees.

found this one difficult to pick, actually, and it's a loose formation. I think that's the best formation for the game when attacking, and when defending having gerrard track back. then again, it may be asking too much of him for this game. all in all i think we wont keep a clean sheet but will win

id throw lucas and spearing in the middle, theyre scrappy bastards when theyre on form and i think theyd pick it up in a derby, i cant be arsed seein adam lob his diagonal balls then fall onto some poor twat after he's ran a few meters, getting sent off in the process, carroll should start with suarez just cause they should really be gettin a bit of a partnership going by now, downing on the left kuyt on the right, yeah ino, i think kuyt should be used predominantly as a spare striker (or first choice depending on carrols up and down form) but we've got no-one that can play ther at all, leave stevie on the bench for the first half, see how we get on
