Post Match Arsenal (H) 2-2 Sunday April 17th

It would be blown up even more if they commented on it though. Its not worth it.
Robertson's comments were very good I thought.

The media are already having a field day with the booing, so we don't need anymore.

I don’t think the boos are going away unfortunately. One of the consequences of doing what he did was always this. I don’t think you can blame any fans that have acted the way they have. It’s a reaction. They weren’t the cause.
YNWA eh. This is such a drab viewpoint, its not their fault? Just because you don't agree with a players actions after 20 years of service, it doesn't give you a free pass to act like a cunt. Thats why this World is such a fucking mess.

It had to have been planned.

I don’t know what the motive was, but Slot must have known the kind of reception Trent would get at Anfield.

What seals it for me is the post-match comment.
One of the cringiest, most blatant PR, damage-control lines I’ve ever heard as an LFC fan:

"The good thing about living in Europe is that everyone can have their view and express it how they want."

He delivered it verbatim—in the Sky post-match interview, the BBC interview and the post-match presser. I bet there's more.

And it’s obvious the entire team got the same memo, because Robbo repeated the same sanitized nonsense, just with his own spin.

Honestly? I couldn’t care less if Trent got booed. But I do wish just one player had the guts to speak their mind. If Trent’s your mate and you didn’t like the crowd’s reaction, say it!

"Trent didn’t deserve that."

Not this calculated, agnostic, toe-the-line corporate drivel.
He did say he didn't like it, he just said he couldn't dictate to people how to feel.

I guess I missed it. I just heard him say that he's disappointed about Trent leaving and that it's not "nice" hear him get boo'ed.

I'm fine with slots entire viewpoint tbh. Why alienate part of a fanbase (who admittedly are bellends) by supporting a player who actively doesn't want to be there? PR spiel or not, it's the right line to tow in this situation.

Yes it would have been ideal if no one booed. But they were always going to, and that's why I don't understand him playing another minute for us since the announcement. Was slot that naive or did he not care about the player? Did slot robotically just think he should rest Bradley? It's odd

Bradley’s stature rises amid Trent rancour

Late-season at Anfield, a welcome show of spirit in a comeback from Arsenal became the tale of three full-backs. Following an early booking, Myles Lewis-Skelly, who began sketchily, found the measure of Mohamed Salah. There may be no tougher discipline for a defender in 2025. Does “MLS” have a long-term future as a defender or is his broad skillset better suited to midfield? The same questions have long been asked of Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose second-half arrival gave rise to a loud, vicious barracking, rancorous accusations of treachery that will grab headlines. If not unprecedented – Steve McManaman received similar treatment in 1999 – it was shocking to hear the Kop’s open contempt for one of their own, though one who has dared to flee the Merseyside nest. Before Alexander-Arnold’s arrival, Conor Bradley staked claims to be a first-teamer with typical ferocity in the tackle and speedy overlaps. He was also booked. As his replacement arrived to boos, the Kop pointedly sang the youngster’s name. John Brewin

That is my point. They've must have known that the crowd would be hostile towards Trent and therefore had prepared statements.

But why play him? What was the end game? There was no need. We were up by one when he came on. He could have brought on Endo, Quansah or even Tsimikas to play on the right. Why even give a spot on the bench to someone who clearly is leaving? Could mind as well have given it to Chiesa, at least his imminent departure isn't official.

I think the Worlds in a mess cause people care to much about how others react and feel, and seem hellbent on changing peoples minds if their viewpoint is different from their own.

The Trent stuff being a perfect example.

Slot got it spot on imho, but shouldn’t have subbed him on. It just created more shit and the atmosphere shifted in the stands.
The last home game against Palace should be about celebrating the league title, so he shouldn’t be anywhere near the squad/bench.

Parts of me want to believe that Slot is cynical enough to let Trent feel what leaving the club is all about.

Parts of me thinks he wanted to win the game.

Parts of me couldnt give a fuck either way.

We were winning the game until he came on. So his logic was bring on a worse defender than Bradley?

I mostly think it's the first tbh. We've seen him be absolutely ruthless with players he doesn't rate.

It arguably lays down a marker to other players in the squad who might be tempted to refuse to renew and leave on a free in the future.

Arsenal were dominating us at that point. Why not bring on one of the best RBs in the World? It nearly won us the game in the end.

It doesn’t matter though. It’s like post season friendlies at this point.

Who's failure to keep a defensive line, despite looking right across it, 'cost us the match'.

We should also note Bradley's superb last ditch tackle that stopped a certain goal just before he went off. Brilliant timing.

Yeah, sends a message to the likes of Ibou as well I guess.

Dunno if I agree with us nearly winning us the game. Them going to 10 men and absolutely low blocking us nearly won us the game.

If Slot's mentality really was "I'm not letting you weasel your way out this and escape through the back door", then fine.
But it cost us the game in the end.
It has to stop though. Someone at the club has to tell him that he can't have Trent on the pitch against Palace.

It's like we're playing with 10 men atm.
With Diaz in the first half I wouldn't go that far. Overall he was good, but fuck me he's not and never will be a consistent goalscorer to the level we need at the 9, and arguably at the LW. For me, gakpo needs to offer more goals/assists consistently as well. Yes, there was a spell he was scoring nigh on every week for a 5 week spell, but that seems a while ago. Ideally with a decent 9 his lovely crosses will find targets more consistently

In the same way last week he went "you want Elliott and endo? Here you go. I was right, fuck you", this week he went "fucking leave us will you? Enjoy this for 20 minutes. Fuck you".

The league title that he's helped us achieve? Do me a favour. Like I said, it's done now, most people with common sense have condemned it. People need to just grow the fuck up and have some humility. Hopefully with the dickhead jeers out the way, he and we can enjoy the celebrations and the parade without it being spoiled by a section of retarded twats.

Lets not get into the "we didn't win because we brought on Trent" narrative, the game was already on the slide by then, Trent also nearly helped us win it, but for typically unreliable finishing. The offside was marginal and could have happened to any of our defenders, and I'm loathed to defend Trent's defending, but he was as likely as anyone to create a winner.

No I'm not saying that we lost because of him, I'm questioning the point in bringing him on.
To win a game we we're already winning?
To protect a lead?
Trent would be one of the last players I'd bring on to protect a lead.

I missed most of the second half but we've been iffy for a few months now.

It would have been nice if the team could've capitalized on the celebratory atmosphere but same 'ol issues came to the fore and the result is what is is. It doesn't look like the team is going to ride out the season in style, which is a shame... I guess we're just all waiting for the new season now. The TAA thing is a pointless distraction but I guess it gives everyone something to talk about.

Those same fans chanted his name two weeks ago after he had hidden away for the last year even though he’s the vice captain.

The way he has handled all this has resulted in alienating the fans and that’s solely on him, his agent brother and the timing.

I don’t condemn it and I don’t encourage it. I’m just indifferent. Just like the fans will hopefully be towards him for the next two games.

Put mabaya on the bench. Put Esdaille on the bench. Genuinely cannot understand giving Trent any more minutes. It's a distraction.
