Darwin - the evolution of a transfer

It's not market or a scenario where we can be stubborn over his price until the end of the window. The club need to keep Napolli engaged. We're not spoilt for choice of suitors and we need two nines to come in, or at least a nine and an adaptable attacker. Having the time to get that done and then integrated during pre season is every bit as important as the fee.

The thing is it’s De Laurentis handling the negotiations himself. It’s a mess. Just look at the Oshimen to Gala stuff where he’s also the main man.

Better to move on to other clubs, if there are any.

Is there anything to be said for him staying and stepping up?

Wirtz feeding him and the circumstances around Jota causing some kind of maturity and opportunity.

I realise this is looking for a miracle.

I think they were but on their terms
Exactly, so never serious. They'll come in and go 20m with 20m in add-ons and then be surprised when we go no.

It's the same for all Italian clubs. Never buy Italians and never sell to Italians.

It is extremely optimistic, but am leaning this way. His has proven to be an occasional game winner. It is strange that it never seems to build confidence and let him go on a streak, but is constant running could open up space for Wirtz late in games.

No, we should sell him this summer. Doesn’t suit the team and he’s not good enough. We need that change upfront this summer.

Only if we can actually find two strikers, including one at less cost that Darwin. I do not feel strongly about this, but I am leaning slightly this way. If we got one good striker in, I would be satisfied.

To be clear, I'm not advocating for this.

Unless he starts performing in an outstanding way in training and preseason before revealing that he was visited by the spirit of Jota and suddenly has his instinct.

It would be an option if we can't unload him for a reasonable fee (and by that I think the club are looking at £45m ball park).

Everyone here hates him / ridicules him for his insane misses but at the same time his record isn't horrendous and his record in Portugal was damn good with most (about 60% I think I posted years ago) of his goals coming from within 6-7m where he had little time to think. He did get into those goalscoring positions close in.

When we had Robbo and Trent bombing in umpteen dangerous crosses a match into the box - that was perfect. Unfortunately Klopp then decided to invert Trent and Robbo lost his touch and so our width died and Nunez wasn't the player for our new tactics.

Maybe with Wirtz, Kerkez and Frimpong / Bradley he could be - at least as a backup - I'd not put money on him (or us winning the PL) should he start however if we are struggling it might be a tactical option.

Nope.

i see what you’re saying but if the fullbacks are wanging in crosses all match i’d rather have chris wood or andy carroll

not totally against the idea of keeping him though, so long as he’s not part of plan a. not sure his temperament is compatible with that.
