Isakly what we need

If Isak is to be believed, and no reason he shouldn't, Newcastle have had loads of time to get a replacement, it's their incompetence that's left them in this situation.

Exactly

A lot of NE journalists are now saying "well liverpool were greedy buying Ekitike and wanting Isak. Newcastle could have bought Ekitike"

This train of thought is wrong because;

1) we were told Isak wasn't for sale, so rather than standing still, we bought our 2nd target who matches the Isak profile.
2) Ekitike didn't want to go to their bitch ass club and dragged his heels.

If Newcastle actually entered in to negotiations with us prior to Ekitike, then maybe we could have sorted something different. But they didn't because they're so fucking stupid and imagined their pull was unparalleled

Nah, Wissa shouldnt be an alternative. Brentford want 60 mill and he's 28.

I'm only saying it out of spite because I live in a constant state of it.

Realistically Fofana, guehi, maybe goncalo Ramos or a Yildiz. Someone versatile up top. Or rodrygo. Only downside is he seems very commited to Madrid

I think Rodrygo would be doable but its the wages etc. Didnt get a single minute yesterday either.

The wages are a killer. Good player, but worth nowhere near it.

More inclined to take a punt on the next talent, or one who's not done as well as they could have.

Can someone explain this article 17 lark as if I’m 5 (or 50)?

Seems like at the end of next season, Isak can invoke it and be able to leave his contract, as he'll be three years into his contract. Newcastle would be due compensation, which is his remaining salary and remaining book value, which is about 50m, but could take a while before that's agreed.

I think the shortened version is that, Isak will be leaving Newcastle this month or in January, unless they can get him to agree a new contract, which seems pretty unlikely.

I don’t think it can be done because there is something in there about timing and linking it to last game of the season.

The other timing is Isak has served more than 3 years of his contract. By meeting this condition he can use article 17 to terminate his contract.

Liverpool would have to pay Newcastle what they paid on a pro rata basis plus the outstanding wages to Isak as compensation. It’s actually a finger in the air but some will think this is adequate.

It has other things to consider such as testing it outside the EU and with a transfer in the same football association.

My take is that it's a mechanism put in place to placate the lawyers who think the transfer system is inequitable, but it's so messy in practice and fraught with risk that it very rarely happens, especially with a player with Isak's profile and the values involved.
He can threaten it to try to gain some leverage, Newcastle will call his bluff, nothing will happen.
But some journos will write about it and some rent-a-quote lawyers will speculate.

I think it shows weakness if we return with a larger bid. Just remake the same bid (publicly) - as a lot has now changed in the situation. Or make a lower one.

Same bid upfront but with more in add ons would be my strategy. We «know» it has to be 125-130 mill

Would you look at this cunt - surely on Saudi payroll

I wonder if he had similar views when Arsenal bid for Suarez.

We have no obligation to “do right” by Newcastle and that’s always going to be subjective anyways.

Football is a cut throat business and as we have all seen time and time again, incredibly hypocritical.

At this point I don’t even want Isak. Leave ‘em all to it.

Can we not just pay Isak to buy himself out of his contract and quit all this fucking about with Newcastle.

What's he got? 3 years left? on 150k a week? Buy the fucker out, if clubs can do it then so too should the player.

Tax becomes an issue.
If Isak needs, say £50m to buy himself out of the contract, it'll cost us £109m to put him in the funds to do it.
Plus we don't know if it'll be £50m, there'll be a compensation amount in there that we can't put a precise value on. If we estimate that at £30m and it comes out at £50m, it'll cost us an extra £44m.
That's why I say, the process is just too risky when it's a high-profile player under contract.

Can we offer some of these AI bots in part exchange for Isak - I’m sure they can convince Howe’s nephew he’s really good at negotiating and pretend they’re strikers.

Buy the fucker out,
I disagree. IMO, there is NO WAY Isak is worth more than Wirtz. He is inflated. He is way, way inflated. He is also not the sort of a player LFC pursues. Pursing a big Newcastle striker is always going to attract all sorts of shit and shit attention. This was fundamentally a great misstep, IMO, exacerbated by the fact LFC let Diaz go. That is what is driving this and making it criminal. With Diaz on board, a proven goal scorer and performer, LFC would've been golden. And we had him on contract. For 2 more years. The best Colombian football player. Colombia has a great reputation. Their players put in the work. They have grit. It was the most terrible error to lose him just like that. What happened is that Slot mismanaged Diaz.

Goncalo Ramos is a Spurs level signing at best, as is Wissa

Brentford supporting mate insists that the 60m number for Wissa is completely made up and they want around 40 but Newcastle are hopeless
