Isakly what we need

It's not happening is it? Tbf I wouldn't sell him either now. What's the point if they can't sign a replacement? In the very unlikely scenario that he won't play for them, they're no worse off anyway.

We need to start looking for an alternative. Rodrygo maybe? At least that would leave open the possibility of getting Isak in January or next summer.

Rodrygo was an unused sub for Real last night fwiw.

We spent a large part of the early summer talking through the options and realised most were not good enough and there was slim pickings.
We got ekitike but we lost 3 forward players from last season

We are well short and need to look at getting some quality in ASAP.

Barcola, Fofana, rodrygo are the only other names mentioned.

Chiesa may play more, you could count him as a new player considering how very very little he featured last season, and Rio may possibly make the step up as our tricky winger (hopefully we give him opportunities to develop). Either Chiesa or Frimpong can play in place of Salah during AFCON, and we have Rio, Ekitike, and Gakpo available for the left.
I think realistically that we're just one short to either cover for Ekitike in the middle (no idea who) or be the main man in the middle, in Izak. That would put Ekitike on the left.

I’m surprised we haven’t been linked to Simons - he seems a more affordable option and is definitely available - plus there’s a deal to be done with Harvey there.
That popped into my head yesterday. I think we go back to Newcastle with a take or leave £110m again and, if no joy, move on. I'd rather we signed a front-three type forward anyway.

Only way I can see this happening now is if Isak becomes the most high profile player to buy himself out of his contract and really test the new rules.

The Newcastle statement wasnt as "firm" as first reported. We'll probably test them with a 125-130 mill bid and if that is turned down we'll move on and try again in January/next summer for a reduced fee.

If the Isak door closes then Rodrygo is the alternative really. Can play everywhere in attack and doesnt block a future move for Isak.

What Isak is doing is forcing his move the way such things are done in the NBA. Such stuff are not common in England. The culture is different. The American, including FSG, influence within the PL is growing but FSG and Liverpool might incur unexpected consequences. Unlike what happens in the US.

Chiesa may play more

Super sub. He should be used just like he was used in that first game. As a super sub. He is clutch and a big-moment player. But injury prone, remember. He can't be expected to put in the minutes like Ekitike, Gakpo and hopefully Salah too. Salah not incurring an injury is critical. He is getting there in age and plays a whole, whole lot. It is huge if he can remain injury free.

Newcastle really fucked up by not getting their targets in early - or more likely their incompetence at not getting deals done early fucked them up.
Newcastle are a lowly club. They just qualified for the CL. And barely. They struggle when it comes to attracting players. These next 2-3 years are critical for them. It is hard to make a transition from a lowly club to an attractive club that players want to play for. That's why the Isak issue is huge for them. For Newcastle, the Isak issue is almost make it or break it. They are in a pretty desperate situation.

I don't think RM would sell him to us unless A. He makes some sort of a major drama/issue (which I haven't heard) or B. He is somehow greatly injured, etc. We are in a transfer cold-war with RM.

I personally find it criminal the way we lost Diaz. That really should've been unacceptable. He was such a great player for us. Always puts in a shift. And has a major engine that is quite unlike all of our other forwards. He could've given us 2 more years at the top of his game and at a time when he has already been well used to the club, surroundings, etcetera. After having also just won the league.

I now get that it's not like the NBA, but maybe it's like the NFL or something else that is easier to understand? Is this related to the Scouser thing. Help me understand.

Diaz made it clear he wanted to leave the club. We just didn't do a Newcastle and got on with it.

Alexander Isak’s public salvo and Newcastle’s swift rejoinder have turned a simmering transfer saga into a full-blown standoff. On August 19, Isak accused the club of “broken promises,” declaring that “when promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.” Newcastle countered hours later by stressing that “no commitment has ever been made… conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired”.

On the table financially, Liverpool’s opening bid of £110 million plus add-ons (around €127.8 m) was rejected outright, and a secondary proposal of £80 m up-front with £60 m next summer reportedly fell flat against Newcastle’s £150 m valuation. Ex-Man City adviser Stefan Borson reckons the Reds could trim that to roughly £125 m plus add-ons if both sides really want a deal, suggesting there is still a narrow path to agreement.

Meanwhile, Newcastle haven’t been idle. They’ve agreed a £40 m deal for Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey and are closing in on Brentford’s Yoane Wissa—moves that read like insurance policies should Isak depart. It’s textbook transfer-window chess: secure replacements before sanctioning your top earner’s exit to safeguard squad balance.

Behind the headlines, Eddie Howe insists he never promised Isak a move, underlining how much of this saga boils down to two conflicting narratives. In the meantime, Isak has been training apart from the first team and even moved out of his Newcastle home, a dramatic tactic that few strikers employ—and one that underscores how toxic the relationship has become on both sides.

Realistically, barring a last-gasp breakthrough, this one may drift into January. By then, Liverpool could revisit their offer, other suitors (Real Madrid included) might enter the frame, or the Reds could pivot to alternative targets altogether. So here’s my question for the thread: do you think Isak forces a move before September 1, or is this a saga destined to spill over into the winter window?

Full fucking stop!

Who used chatgpt? You or the source?

Thoughts on Vlahovic? Juve looking to sell, 1 year left on contract, stats not too shabby, hes on a high salary at Juve hence why they want rid with their restructuring on player salaries.
