Isakly what we need

I disagree. IMO, there is NO WAY Isak is worth more than Wirtz. He is inflated. He is way, way inflated. He is also not the sort of a player LFC pursues. Pursing a big Newcastle striker is always going to attract all sorts of shit and shit attention. This was fundamentally a great misstep, IMO, exacerbated by the fact LFC let Diaz go. That is what is driving this and making it criminal. With Diaz on board, a proven goal scorer and performer, LFC would've been golden. And we had him on contract. For 2 more years.

Like a balloon?

Why are the likes of Henry Winter even still going on about the fee? Isn't it completely obvious that this is about Newcastle's failure to sign their replacement? They don't need the money in first to do that - they specifically want it the other way round because 1. they know they can sell Isak and don't need to worry about the outgoing fee and 2. they don't want to be left high and dry.

It seems to me like everything else is just fucking irrelevant.

Newcastle going to be stubborn and we will end up with no Striker
Well, Pretty Boy, you are right. The thing is that Newcastle has to be stubborn. If they lose Isak they can drain their season and then the next 2-3 years down the toilet. The steepest climb is exactly where Newcastle is right now. From a middle-of-a-table nobody to a Champions League qualifier. That's where the steepest competition is. The curve is the steepest there. It's hard. The last club that made that curve and came on the other side was Manchester City.* It happened w/ a huuuuge influx of money as they went from Mark Hughes to Mancini. Newcastle are at the Mark Hughes stage. That's tough. They can't attract top players. And they can't attract top managers.

*AND LIVERPOOL. Liverpool is also the club that has passed that curve with Klopp and now with Slot. So that I was incorrect. But Liverpool was never a mid-table nobody. Liverpool was a Champions League qualifier but lacked consistent success. Liverpool is a great English club. Newcastle is not. Newcastle is also a big and reputable English club. But in contrast to Liverpool they really do have a way to go. I actually have sympathies for them and for their Isak situation. It is unfortunate what is going on. FSG should've known it is never easy to pry away the top Newcastle striker. That is never easy. Especially when they're left with no options. This situation still shows FSG's inexperience in English football. In terms of English football it is simply NOT RIGHT to let Diaz go to Bayern for no obvious reason and then to just like that try and pry away the top Newcastle striker who is under contract and their major star. That's not right. That will be hard to pull off. That thinking was misguided. If LFC want to act like that then they better put up the 150 million pounds. You cant try and do all that and then try to also get a bargain.

The wages are a killer. Good player, but worth nowhere near it.

More inclined to take a punt on the next talent, or one who's not done as well as they could have.

Sign Semenyo!

I'd be looking to sign a winger who can fill in at striker in the £30-70m range because ideally we need one of those anyway. Leave the door open for Isak at a lower price in Jan or next summer.

I'm ready to move on. Just sign a back up striker.
Get Mikautadze from Lyon so that Mamardashvili has a friend.

If we go to Lyon for an attacker and we don't walk away with Malick Fofana I am going to very upset.

Probably as upset as my wife when I got back from the supermarket without milk but a bag of crisps, aluminium foil and a new knife sharpener.

Would be funnier if we signed Eze after that tug of war between Arse and Spurs.

Speaking of which, is Villa still in PSR trouble?

Semenyo for 60-65 mill £ would be a great addition. Sadly I cant see Bournemouth selling and if they do it will be at a much higher fee. He signed a new deal in July.

Honestly semenyo, a striker and Guehi would be fairly decent business

I think we need a forward that can play out wide and at a stretch as a striker if we're signing someone else than Isak.
Not sure we will block that chance.

I can't say I am taking too well to Isak's tantrum. At the end of the day it seems he just want out of the club for some money and it does not matter who he goes to as long as he gets paid.

It's turning really ugly and it was never our fight to begin with. We have a 100m to spend, surely we can find someone else?? I'm all for moving on from this circus.

I don't think it's got much to do with money at all. He wants to go to a bigger club.

Goncalo Ramos is a Spurs level signing at best, as is Wissa

Brentford supporting mate insists that the 60m number for Wissa is completely made up and they want around 40 but Newcastle are hopeless
Brentford are doing to Newcastle what Newcastle did to us over Carroll. They know Newcastle are getting big money for Isak and whatever that goes up by, they’ll add it to Wissa.

i dunno on some levels i think he’s a highly paid footballer that’s signed a contract so fuck him but i’ve had hassle in work over pay/broken promises etc and it can be infuriating and also i guess dependant on circumstances/personality it might be something you need solved asap

My suspicion on the Isak thing is that his agent has reached out to us on the QT and said he has a gentleman's agreement with the club and this is the only reason we began our overtures. I don't think we expected this mess or have instigated it. Perhaps I am being completely naive on this.

Can someone explain this article 17 lark as if I’m 5 (or 50)?

There was a rumour that he could buy himself out of his contract on the 25th August 2025.

However, because he joined after the 2022/23 season started (by 3 games).

This doesn't count towards a "full season".

Therefore the earliest it can be invoked is 1st June 2026, not 25th August 2025 (sadly... I should have checked earlier).

As for the fee, the player and new club will become liable for remaining unamortised amount on the balance sheet of Newcastle + Wages (weirdly).

Therefore, if this is true (and i suspect this is the game we are playing in regards to £110m bids). His value would be around £40m next summer.

This reeks of van dijk. We plod on until Jan, then buy him.

I don't think Isak as transformative as van dijk was though. Id be bidding once more then powering through other signings

Hughes knows Antoine Semenyo, and he knows what he will cost to prize him off Bournemouth. If we got Semenyo who I think will score more goals than Diaz, I would not complain.
