Isakly what we need

It's not happening is it? Tbf I wouldn't sell him either now. What's the point if they can't sign a replacement? In the very unlikely scenario that he won't play for them, they're no worse off anyway.

We need to start looking for an alternative. Rodrygo maybe? At least that would leave open the possibility of getting Isak in January or next summer.

It really does look like amateur hour from Howe’s nephew and by association himself, since he’s the one that had a power struggle to remove the previous DoF.

This posturing only makes it look worse - I’m starting to come round to the “let’s just move on” and let them fuck around till their heart’s content.

And if we are still interested, we absolutely should not be upping the bid.

I think we try once more tomorrow. If they're completely unreceptive, then we move on. Theres 11 days left. We need a winger and/or a striker and a CB.

Drop a similar fee on Barcola and tell Newcastle to shove their canny bags of Tudor up their hole.

They need to get Isak to attend a meeting with the big cheeses that own the club.

They'll clear it up.

We can look for another option and they can do the same after his mysterious disappearance.

I think Newcastle's position is a fair one. Can't be expecting them to sign two strikers when they can't even sign one.

We need to get a winger who can cover for CF.

This is what it comes down to. Everyone knows they're absolutely desperate and a lot of the selling clubs would need replacements of their own anyway. This is why Brentford are suddenly demanding more for Wissa - they look like they desperately need him themselves.

At some point it just makes sense to block the move and call his bluff. It's seriously unlikely he actually refuses to play.

I dunno, I can see him refusing to play

5 months' wages (let's say 21 weeks at £140k a week) is £3m. Plus serious reputational damage, plus that fabled "world cup year". Plus a significant chance it doesn't even get done in January...

I think it's pretty unlikely. Maybe 10% chance or so.

What's the chance he plays and is super motivated to do so though?

What's the chance if things aren't going that well he's a calming influence in the dressing room?

Wouldn’t he just have to “declare” himself available and turn up for training - don’t know whether Newcastle would have a case to refuse to pay him if he then just went through the motions.

They can’t really tell him to stay away from training and then accuse him of failing to make himself available to play.

Surely some sort of compromise - possibly even a loan overseas, even if it’s in the 2nd half of the season.

Newcastle really fucked up by not getting their targets in early - or more likely their incompetence at not getting deals done early fucked them up.

I’d be close to thinking now that he’s not worth the effort given it’ll take him a while to get match fit and integrate.

Both sides seem to be digging in rather than trying to find a compromise.

Reckon he will just end up on loan to Saudi club. 3yrs is a long time on the bench and NUFC look completely like a bunch of amateurs for multiple reasons.
Not sure why we really got involved with this now, hopefully we have a backup in the works as they are asking too much and let’s face it, he is a depreciating asset.
