Isakly what we need

I must have watched Klopp saying a few times during his interviews that Nunez was "nice looking" when we played Benfica. Then we bought him, it was weird.

To be fair, we were paying to finish build a new stand in the stadium.

A bit like when Arsenal were paying off the Emirates under Wenger, they barely spent.

As soon as it was paid off, and Arteta comes in, he's spending money like a drunken sailor. If only Wenger had that chance...

Agreed, if we add up the total cost of rebuilding Anfield and the training ground, it in excess of 200M.

It occurs to me that Newcastle are basically in the same position we were in when Arsenal bid £40m + £1 for Suarez. They might persuade the player to stay for another season but that will be it - he’ll go next year.
And if that’s what happens, if we’re going to go for someone else, I’d rather it was Mateta, a stop-gap but a known quantity, than Ekitike (promise but risk) who just feels like he could be another Nunez in terms of profile. We’d at least know what we were getting with Mateta and I think he would do a more than decent job for us.
Then we sign the guy we really want next summer.

I think the difference between Ekitike and Nunez as transfers is that Ekitike has likely been a much longer scouting target for the club.

And that Ekitike has a lot of other qualities that actually suit us. He also underperformed this season in terms of xG while Nunez was overperforming the season before he moved to us. Those numbers were unrealistic to match. Big difference.

Ekitike is a brilliant signing if that’s the one.

Ekitike also underperformed at PSG before moving to Frankfurt. He's as big a punt on potential as Sesko would be.

He played 1300 mins for PSG at the age of 20. I don’t think that counts as much now in all honesty.

Quite a similar risk to Sesko but Ekitike probably suits us better with the qualities he has and playing infront of Wirtz.

well played newcastle, i wish it were so easy to nip some of our past transfer sagas

I think Newcastle will end up regretting this one. Isak is most likely off next summer and they miss out on a target they’ve trying to sign for years (3 times).

I really like his attitude. He knew we were also trying for Isak but only wants us. Confidence in himself and his abilities. Will be another good signing I reckon.
