Isakly what we need

he had a point though, our data & recruiting guys are good and it was apparently klopp who pushed for darwin. i do trust them if they want this guy

He scored 14 goals from 19 non penalty xG.
Overperforming the xG stats in his prior seasons.
There is a reason our scouts and the data nerds love him.

He’s nothing like Darwin. He’s the opposite of Darwin. That’s why they love him.
It should be a crime to compare them. The punishment should be being forced to join RAWK.
Overperforming in previous seasons? He played to his xg the season before last with the grand total of 14 matches. He didn't play the season before. Last season he was fucking miles off it. 23 expected goals. Actual goals 15.

So you're saying the stats don't matter. Well what does then?

Ekitike was the one striker we were linked to I didn't want. I'm a hopeless optimist so the xg thing doesn't bother me that much, but you'd be a fool to argue it's not a concern.

I just don't think he looks very good.

Anyway, genuinely hope I'm completely wrong.

It's actually not. You can see with your own eyes when people playing for your team or a competitor are better or worse than average, but is a great method of how to score people you don't know.
There’s far too many variables to say that 1000 players taking shot it should go in x number of times. Quality of the player, a premier league player will do better than a championship player, timing in the game, speed/height of the ball, conditions of the game (first minute of a game against cannon fodder is different to 119th minute of a CL final), weather, injuries, opposition keeper, and so on. It’s not comparing like for like.

A pen is 0.8 xG. If you were to look at Milner you should say his pen xG should be 0.95 based on his actual data.

It’s emperor’s new clothes for nerds.

He has played games every season, mate.
23/24 was half the season on loan at Frankfurt.

Its easy to see here that he has been overperforming xG in his previous seasons. However limited it might be, but he’s a young lad.
Comparing him to prime Salah and Isak is a bit foolish and won’t paint the correct picture.

Who says stats doesn’t matter?

That's fair comment. I'd add only that trust is sometimes harder to give than at other times. I'll support Ekitike if we sign him, but I'll still need some convincing.

same, unless he’s fully darwin who almost instantly revealed himself to be not at the level required, then i’ll struggle

He’s as somone pointed out, baby Isak. They have a lot of similarities in playing style and stats. Which shows why we move for him when Isak wasn’t an option.

It’s more of a risk given the development needed, but you get a similar profile who is younger and without the injuries.

A lot to like, so let’s hope it works out. Slot and his team are excellent coaches and he’ll get to play with World class players, so it’s a reason to be hopeful and excited.

There is always hope :-

1) Darwin looked so good he convinced our senior players, Klopp and coaches that he was it but it turned out to be not so.

2) There is also the theory that City signed Marmoush in the hope he was going to be the next whatever, but who is to say that his goal-scoring exploits last season were not down to the play-making and setup ability of the Eki ? People think Marmoush has been been a big success, but ask any Egyptian and they will tell you he is no Mo Salah (not even close).

3) Then there is what our data nerds are saying with regard to him being an early version of Isak, if so then his first season with us might be special.

But - is anyone worried that we if we end up with him he will be the 3rd player from Germany we have signed this season ? - that is my biggest worry - I know there are aspects of that league that are similar to ours, but really in terms of talent living up to their expectation in recent years from that league - I can only say Matip (when fit and playing with VVD) has been the best we have signed - and he was free. Forget Thiago - good player but hardly available.

But it's not just a bit off. He's miles out. I haven't watched him but you have, several others have, and apparently not only are his stats very sub par, he looks shite too.

Do not want.

He’s got 35 league goals in his career from 34.3 xG. How is that miles out?

He certainly doesn’t look shit when you see him play.

I’m with you there based on the stats we have been presented. However, I expect us mongs to have access to the free limited service and the club have the full subscription access and can see data we cannot.

We’ve been scouting him since he played for Reims, and Edwards and the stats nerds love him. That’s enough for me.

You can say what you want about Newcastle but their recruitment have been spot on for a long while now talent wise. I actually feel even better with this transfer knowing that they have tracked him for 3 years and tried to sign him 3 times as well.

32 career goals out of xG 40

Missing the first loan he was on:

He's underperforming XG

That's because he creates so much XG his goal numbers pale in comparison. He has the eighth highest XG per match in Europe this season. Kane and Salah are 7th and 8th with almost identical numbers
Joint 8th?
