Remember in 2018 when we were linked with Nabil Fekir and as a result of his medical we were told that there were concerns about his operation on his knee. So we will not be signing him..?

How spectacularly wrong were the medical staff there a grand total of 59 days missed since 2018

https://www.thisisanfield.com/2021/09/nabil-fekir-reflects-on-dark-moment-of-failed-liverpool-transfer-in-201/

Maybe it is in the past, but if you believe that the Torres/Chelsea deal was arranged many months before it took place then the conclusion is that FSG, Liverpool FC and manager at the time Kenny Dalglish; lied to us then and lied to us about Torres and lied to us about Fekir.

Makes you question the whole Coutinho transfer, and what if we end up selling Salah..?? will we be lied to there about the reasons surrounding that sale..?

And how does it now make you feel knowing that Kenny Dalglish and Jurgen Klopp may have when along with these lies...?

For me, it just saddens me, because I would like to believe they did not. But being a US base company, I feel pretty sure that both Dalglish and Klopp signed confidentiality clauses when signing up for the club

If only we’d signed Fekir when we had the chance, we wouldn’t have had such a barren few years and have a squad that’s so far behind all the other top 6 teams.

Damn you FSG with your lies and transfer monies in separate allocated bank accounts.

Why…. Whyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!

We werent lied to. We found something during the physical tests and medical and decided that the risk was to big to sign him.
Even if he hasnt had a recurrence of the injury the risk was there.

If anything, in hindisight, not spending money on him was good for our team.

Player medicals throw up all kinds of things. It is not a pass or fail thing. He had had a knee injury and surgery, there was a risk that this might cause problems later on, and we would have paid an awful lot for him. I imagine that if his fee had been a lot lower then we might well have bought him because the risk would have been lower.

There will have been plenty of players over the years who haven’t been signed based on results of the medical who have then gone on to have long careers elsewhere. Medical staff cannot entirely see the future, just identify the risks.

Not sure I really get the point about Torres?

I thought the story was we agreed everything then his agent, brother and entourage started acting like cunts demanding more money so we said see ya and moved on. Anyway why are we crying over this? The whole world moved on, it's not like he's tearing up trees at Betis.

Makes you question the whole Coutinho transfer,

You must be the only one on the planet to question the Coutinho transfer. Widely regarded as the greatest piece of transfer business done by any club in the last 7-10 years. And if LFC was a shitehouse and lied to push Coutinho out of our club and into Barca's hands, then that makes it even better.

Fairly confident, if Fekir had joined us, his knee would have blown in the third game, and would have joined Thiago, Keita, Ox club in terms of players who died representing us.

I think the entourage thing would have immediately had Klopp doing an about turn. It's interesting that our enquiries to Grujic behind the scenes about Diaz appear to have been all about his personality- whether he was a nice guy, and someone that would fit in. If some prick arrives with a crew like he's a fucking rapper he's not getting signed.

There was only a concern. Someone weighed up the risk and reward. Then we went on to win the European cup and league.

We brought on £100 million worth of talent last night. We can still win 4 trophies in mid February and you still think we are badly run?

Read the link, seems as if Klopp was still keen on Fekir

My post was aimed at your constant sniping at FSG and never spending cash. We looked at him, decided it wasn’t worth the risk and moved on. That decision helped us win trophies. Which in turn put us in a position to sign someone for £50 million last month and have a LMS expensive bench last night.

Yeah, the were some doubts about Fekir's injury record, but that was factored into the price. We likely had a deal in place, subject to a medical, and used that as the get out when his manager/brother started acting like a bellend and demanding additional money. It backfired for Fekir, career. The failed medical attracted huge publicity and will have been a red flag against him. I'm glad he's done well and made a decent career at Betis, however he must always be damning the decision to not seek better representation and guidance.

As for whether the clubs lies to fans, of course it does, to an extent. It's no different to any organisation with a sizeable customer base. The CEO/Klopp will have a statement to go out, which only includes the bare minimum, it will then get scrutinised by a legal team, then a coms team, then back to the CEO for sign off. At every stage there's redactions and edits. The best sources in terms of the details generally come from autobiographies years down the line, but even these are subject to huge bias and then twisted and embellished by ghost writers.

Nabil Fekir Breaks Silence Over Failed Liverpool Move

Nabil Fekir breaks the silences over his failed Liverpool move and goes over all of the claims that the media have portrayed about his knee, his family, and his agents

In the summer of 2018, Liverpool were close to closing a move that could have potentially revolutionized their side.
Jurgen Klopp was searching for a potential Philippe Coutinho replacement and French midfielder Nabil Fekir from Lyon was the man to do it.
Many fans were stoked about his arrival, the addition of a midfielder with the ability to break the lines and shoot from distance was missing from the current squad and the fact that he was the captain on the Lyon was even better.

One of the best journalists in Liverpool, Paul Joyce, who is considered by many as the most reliable when covering the club went as far as tweeting that the Reds were going to seal a deal on a Friday.

The hashtag #FekirFriday started trending everywhere on social media, and his arrival was expected and only a matter of days. Fast forward a couple days later and it was reported that there was an issue with his medical.
Most outlets in Europe started claiming that Nabil Fekir's knee wasn't in proper condition and that in the long run it would become an issue.

A few weeks later, other reports surfaced claiming that Nabil Fekir's agents and even family members got in the way of the deal by demanding more money and overall making Liverpool pull the plug on the deal.

Nabil Fekir later moved to Real Betis on 2019, and a move to Liverpool was no longer mentioned and no comment was made after that from Fekir or the Merseyside club.

Nabil Fekir Breaks the Silence

Two years after the failed move, Nabil Fekir came out with comments regarding the issue that occurred in 2018, and how all the reports and news about him were all a lie.

Fekir speaking to LEquipe [via Liverpool ECHO] said:

"Lots of lies were told and they affected me. Especially those told about my family. It hurt them and me. Especially when you know that’s what being told is false."
"What was said is not the truth. My knee is good, I had a quick medical check at Clairefontaine, my knee wasn’t even mentioned. If my knee had
been in such a bad state, would [Lyon] have made [an offer to keep me]?"

“But the worst thing is the idea that people could suggest that it’s because of my family that the transfer didn’t happen. It’s a lie. But you have to live with it.”

"You want the truth? Even I don’t know, I promise you! I did my medical and then [Liverpool] decided not to sign me."

"At some point they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee but an excuse needed to be found."

“The medical tests that I did at Clairefontaine were very clear, my knee is perfectly fine and I feel fine. There are no issues at all with my knee."

“But I have no bitterness towards Liverpool. I met them and we got on brilliantly. They showed that they really wanted me. But when you surround yourself with the wrong people, it comes off badly on you."

One thing is certain, and that is that a move seems very unlikely at this point considering the Frenchman is now 27, and the past issues with their dealings will most likely mean they won't talk again.

Not the transfer itself, but truth around it

So why could the (LFC) just not tell us that..? do they believe that we are children and would through a fit..?
Run the club, don't lie to the supporters. and I believe that more of them(The supporters will be behind you

Why are you so certain that the one person who the most invested in disproving the "lies" is 100% telling the truth?

The truth being that the collapse of the deal was completely on us and nothing to do with his side whatsoever.

First he denies it had anything to do with his family, then just at the end he slips that bit in about "surround yourself with the wrong people". At best the above is confused. At worst that last bit is a giveaway that the first bit is bullsh!t.

I mean, I'm happy to go with the knee issue and entourage issue. I don't know what his km per game is at betis, but there's a strong chance we were wary over it because of the way we play

Where's the cries from Remy, who also failed a medical

The story at the time was that John Henry intervened when it was discovered that Fekir's ACL injury had been repaired using old techniques when more modern surgery has been found to be more effective and long-standing. The club didn't want to take the chance that the injury might recur.

Having suffered an ACL that was originally repaired with a carbon fibre thread that then burst a few years later maybe JH was right. My 2nd operation involved a graft of a tendon from my thigh and the surgeon said it would be stronger than before. So far so good

So, in his own words, he had a deal lined up, he had a medical and then all of a sudden the deal was off.

If he can't work out from that turn of events that, maybe, just maybe, the medical had something to do with the deal going from 'on' to 'off', given it was the one thing that happened between those statuses changing, then perhaps the deal was cancelled because he is a bit of a thicko.

Because what we say to the public has to match what we say behind the scenes, even if it is bullshit.

Anyway, I think we can all agree that missing out on Fekir was, all things considered, a blessing in disguise. As for Torres, we got 50m for a player who'd lost all his heart, and was physically shot, and bought Luis Suarez in the beginning of a period when we were a hair's breadth of winning the league.

I'm not saying that FSG have been perfect owners, but Donavan seems to have found straw-strength sticks to beat them with.
