Chelsea surprised me. I assumed that Conte would make major changes to a team that finished mid-table last season; probably try his 3-5-2 system that he almost always played with Juve and Italy. Instead, Chelsea looked to me exactly as they did last season (in some of their better games under Jose): same 4-2-3-1 with two defensive pivots (only now with Kante instead of Mikel), same back 5, same front 4 (until BasuIcan'tbothertospellhisname came on). Not sure if it's a good thing for them or not – maybe Conte will get the individual players to play better and they will improve somewhat, but on the other hand can you really jump from 10th to top 4 without significant changes?
