UK General Election 24/25

Wow, thick as pig-shit and a paedo. Eminently employable if it wasn't for those bloody foreigners. They just walk into jobs as anaesthetists, and qualified nurses, and charted accountants, when Fuckhead here with his E grade in GCSE woodwork and a noncing record isn't even given an interview. Where's the fairness in that?

He's obviously been persuing the wrong career path. What he needs to do is become a DJ then start running marathons for charity. Before you know it he'll be hosting prime time TV shows and hobknobbing with royals.

If I did the betting thing, which I don't, I'd be backing him to lose

He's a bit like Dianne Abbott. Both have done loads for their actual constituency, so are pretty popular with the locals.

But to those outside they are unpopular.

That was my understanding.

Had a conversation with my in laws today. They were saying our local MP does a lot for our constituency.

My reply caught them off guard. I said yeah, you can tell an election is coming up because for a year before hand he's pretty visible, saying all the right things without actually following through. Then for the other 4 years he does sod all for the area, not delivering on his promises.

They had no reply.

Who's that?

If I was living back home my MP would most likely be John Finucane, a Sinn Fein politician. I've no idea if he's been any good or not. Judging by the increase in volumes of dog shit on the pavements I'd say he's done nothing.

Consider yourself lucky - if I were back home it’d be Sammy Wilson who when asked about food shortages on supermarket shelves due to BREXIT, replied people could just go to the chippy instead.

He’s great if the only think you hate more than environmentalists is the gays!!!!

To be fair…. I don’t think even he could make Larne worse.

Hold on a second, this general election is going to be after the university term time, isn't it? Will this make a difference?

Not really, polling stations stay open to 10pm whatever the date so they should just about make it

I was always under the impression that the Tories would call elections during term time whenever students were away from home studying.

Opposite isn’t it, so the students can’t vote as a block against the Tories in a single constituency.

If memory serves you can register home and term time address.

My kids ar uni 1st year and uni year after and neither are competent in the “registering for a vote” in any planet never mind town

Most of the students I knew didn't even bother registering with a GP never mind register to vote.

I hung about with political types… at least one became an MP.
Funny you should mention that, three of my former schoolmates are running to be the MP for north Belfast. One is the current Sinn Fein MP but I don't know him. The other two I know quite well as I also went to primary school with them. One's a green and the other SDLP. The green candidate is currently in the Seanad in Dublin. I don't think they'll get in. It'll probably go to the Sinner

Smashing the stereotype that everyone in Ireland knows everyone else
I know a Dubliner who lives here in Athens, we got talking as his mother's family were originally from Belfast. To cut a long story short turned out his aunts used to babysit my brothers!

To make it even more mental, his aunts didn't babysit them in Belfast, they babysat when my folks were living in Skerries.

Pray tell why would your parents move from Skerries to Belfast.

They're from Belfast and my da got a cushy job up north. Although they did move back in 79, which was a bit of a mad decision as things were still quite bomby and shooty then.

Nowadays Belfast is better than Skerries. I don't care what anyone says, I've been to both.
