I've kind of assumed that if Guehi is signed, that's the end of either Gomez or Konate at the club, maybe not in this window, but in one of the next two.
He'll play plenty, and in truth he may be a welcome alternative to Ibou's vacillating performances- one day a monster, the other indecisive, or rash, a mistake waiting to happen. Guehi will offer stability and leadership that we will find plenty of use for.Do we still need him this season with the Italian boy in? Even if he comes when will he play?
We can either get him in Jan for 10-15m or on a free next season.
Palace can choose to play hardball but they have nothing on us.

If we drop Ibou for Guehi, he is definitely leaving for a free if he has not already decided. That's 35m spent and a player we pissed off for free. He'll play plenty, and in truth he may be a welcome alternative to Ibou's vacillating performances- one day a monster, the other indecisive, or rash, a mistake waiting to happen. I’m just not of the mind that you can (with any confidence) include Gomez in a roster of 4 CBs. Add in Konate’s tendency to pick up short term knocks and we’re approaching our title defence with an air of risk we don’t need to.If we drop Ibou for Guehi, he is definitely leaving for a free if he has not already decided. That's 35m spent and a player we pissed off for free.
Meanwhile, the question is if Palace are holding out for 35-40m, do we still go ahead. Of course I prefer him in, he is a quality defender. But the argument is the situation is not as critical as when we didn't have the 4th CB and that's 35-40m saved this season to direct towards Isak or someone else. We could get both Isak and Fofana for example.
IMO, from now till Jan will be a good time to assess Ibou / Gomez / Leoni. We could still strike in Jan at a cheaper price if need be.
On recent form he'd go straight in for Ibou (who's had 135 minutes more than Quansah got).Do we still need him this season with the Italian boy in? Even if he comes when will he play?

Well that depends on objectives / ambition for this season. With Guehi we clearly have the depth to challenge on multiple fronts, without I doubt we do.If we drop Ibou for Guehi, he is definitely leaving for a free if he has not already decided. That's 35m spent and a player we pissed off for free.

Hasn't Steve Parish said on a couple of occasions that they can't afford to let Guehi leave on a free, so they either have to sell him now or get him to see sign a new contract, which is unlikelyOn recent form he'd go straight in for Ibou (who's had 135 minutes more than Quansah got).
Palace's financial model is interesting.
Last season, with the sale of Olise and one or two others, was the first time in 6 seasons that they'd made significant sales (in value terms). In the previous 5 years, their TOTAL transfer profit was £11.8m (and most of that was in 2021).
Unlike a lot of mid-tier clubs, they don't work on a business model of selling players on at huge profits to balance the books. They happily trundle along making modest losses (by PL standards) and keeping hold of their key players. After their trading last summer, they probably don't need to make sales this summer for FFP purposes (UEFA version, PL will not be an issue), and if they did they will be golden after selling Eze. So they won't be under pressure to sell Guehi, and he's showing no signs of kicking off to make a move happen.
Which means we either pay a decent price (closer to their ask than our offer) or they'll happily hang on to him, because that's what they do.
He has, which is a mis-step on his part. But he really isn't the genius he's held out to be by Talk Sport.Hasn't Steve Parish said on a couple of occasions that they can't afford to let Guehi leave on a free, so they either have to sell him now or get him to see sign a new contract, which is unlikely

You got me, it was Jordan I was thinking of, not Parish. Is he as clever as Simon Jordan, though? That's the standard.

If Jordan knew half as much as he thinks he knows he'd know twice as much as he does.
It irritates the hell out of me that he's paraded as some kind of guru. He understands some of it, but nowhere near as much as he thinks.
It's his laughable deployment of vocabulary he has the barest notion about, but that dazzles his educationally sub-normal co-broadcasters and listeners. He's an absolute wally.
