Gettin’ Guehi with it

Yeah not sure about that. Konate is super rapid, Konate is a bulldozer and can not be bullied, Konate has the height and is invaluable on crosses. I know which one I'd choose every day of the week. That said maybe Guehi next to VvD could possibly realise the potential for improvement.
It’s tricky because - apart from natural aggression - they aren’t too similar. For all Konate’s pace and power, he’s also somewhat streakier in form, is prone to lapses in concentration when off form and still isn’t the most comfortable on the ball. Guehi is a genuine leader, seems ultra consistent regards form and injuries, and is more comfortable on the ball.

I think (if under a long contract) they’re both 70-75m players.

Interesting. How to balance those pros and cons in a Slot team!

Exactly how I see it. I mean just why would we? Sabotage our defence for £30m when we have no idea how Guehi will work out?
I've always felt and still feel that if we are signing guehi it's because they've given up on konate signing a new deal. No way he's coming to be 3rd choice in world cup year and no way are we gonna let konate go on a free. You say only 30m but that's still a lot of money plus his wages. We're not city or Chelsea that can easily just write off that money.

I also think we need to take draw a line in the sand as well.

I don’t like these last year of contract merchants. I’d sooner sell the fecker now and get the $ in.

Sets the tone. Don’t want to sign. Fine. Reserves

Big picture - winning the PL and/or CL (for which having quality strength in depth is required) eclipses £30m in the bank every day of the week.

Yep let's cut our nose off to spite our face. Wonderful.

No sir,

1. Helps prevent future situations.
2, Helps bring either a world cup 2026 player to heel
3. or helps resolve contract issue in a manner suitable to us (sign an extension so we can get a fee)
4. Aaaand Generate income for replacement.

With minimal risk of player being ok with being sidelined

So many benefits to taking a tougher line, instead of letting an injury prone player/asset who will miss many games anyway in 2025-2026 go on a free next year.

Not only will we have our nose, but we'll have got a rhinoplasty and a facelift too! Win!

.

I hope we keep konate just for depth, but if we got this lad and another as good as him I'd be happy for him to leave. The issue is numbers, with Q already gone, this it's just us getting back to where we started.

1. Does it? Really? Like Trent did?
2. See above
3. See above
4. Who will cost a lot more because we would be losing a world class player (or sticking him in the reserves if we follow your directions). Better to pay him, tie him to a 3-4 year contract and then sell him next year if we are no longer on the same page.

There is a fine line between playing tough (see our stance with Trent, Salah and VvD - none of whom were consigned to the reserves, as if we would) and chewing your own nuts off.

If you are not Salah, VVD or Trent then you don't get to play stupid games. Arsenal, City and Chelsea wouldn't put up with this shit and neither should we.

Well that’s the point really regarding points 1, 2 and 3. Trent and Konate are part of the same problem that was created during the managerial transition.

I’m totally in favor of giving him a bumper contract - but bang him in the non existent reserves if he messes around. Also Signjng Guehi will help the cause

The guy wants to play the World Cup next year. Use that and force a scenario in your favor. It’s not fecking hard. Rolling over and being a soft touch isn’t the only choice
