Gettin’ Guehi with it

Palace doing with Guehi what we're doing with Diaz Nunez and will potentially do with Konate.

It's a dangerous game because someone could easily spoil your plans, eg if someone swooped in for Diomande now they'll be stuck

In that scenario, we potentially lose out most, because we need to go find another CB, while Palace just retain their captain and roll the dice next summer on who’s available for a cheap price, while hoping Guehi helps they to a higher league finish and a potential run deep into European competition.

I doubt it.
After the Trent situation, spending 115ms on a player, our CB & LW linked away heavily and in dire need of a striker; we probably have more to lose if Konate went for free than palace lose guehi on a free. We've gone from stability to little bit iffy quite quick

Nah, we don’t. Keeping Konate for one season wouldn’t be an issue.

But Palace turning down 35-40 mill doesn’t sound like something they can do.

Might be down to guehi as well. Might want to give them a last gift and help them try and win the conference league.

We'll see. We do probably get guehi over the line (or another cb at least), but I wouldn't be surprised if we didnt get guehi

Nah. The opposite. Everyone knows we will if we think it's in our favour. And maybe the player changes his mind or has it changed for him.

For us it's less financial damage and more reputational damage. We're trying to re-establish ourselves as one of the top 3 sides in Europe, but every year Madrid come knocking and someone wants to leave for free. We need to shake the idea we're a stepping stone club and become a destination club. We'll sell if the price is right, but we might be willing to sell even if the price wasn't exactly what we wanted, but to save face.

Guehi it's purely financial for palace. They've no expectations

Sorry but where does the ‘Top 3 in Europe’ idea come from? We are what we are. Sometimes the best and at other times - well nowhere near.

I think under FSG we’re just trying to be the best run club we can be whilst winning as much shit as possible along the way.

Nothing we can do ( bar winning 5 of the next 10 CL titles) is going to change the way we’re considered by top players. Our place in the top echelon of European clubs is established. And nothing will change the idea for many that RM is the epitome for many reasons.

I agree for Palace it’s all about the money 💰

We've just spent 116m on a 10 that was coveted by lots of teams, and now we're trying to break the British transfer records on a striker. We're clearly trying to set ourselves up for a period of dominance. Losing players every year to Madrid isn't a good look.

The last time we lost a couple of our best players to a ‘desirable’ club, we beat them in one of our most epic CL games and haven’t lost a player to them since (obviously more due to their financial meltdown but not my point).
I hope we do the same to Madrid next season and beyond and show our dominance to players so that the grass looks greenest at Anfield.
