We paid £35-40m for the Ox, 8 years ago.30-35m would be a steal for a player of Guehi’s quality, age and experience
And he was a crock.
Getting Guehi for less than that would be a bargain.

I reckon we'll get Isak and Guehi for the £150million we were originally quoted just for Isak, fair play.Told ya £35 mill...😉
If you've paid attention the past few days he's already imploding!Imagine how hard Binomial’s going to have to work to find a reason to call Hughes a cunt if we end up adding Guehi, Leoni and Isak to the squad.
Its an easy challenge, Hughes still has not identified the fact that we get cut through midfield, and lack a phaysical pacey DM in the mould of a Camavinga/Baleba/EdersonImagine how hard Binomial’s going to have to work to find a reason to call Hughes a cunt if we end up adding Guehi, Leoni and Isak to the squad.
Oh Hughes does Slot's job for him too now does he? Jesus H. Christ Almighty. Its an easy challenge, Hughes still has not identified the fact that we get cut through midfield, and lack a phaysical pacey DM in the mould of a Camavinga/Baleba/Ederson
Why when you have Maccers, Endo and Trey? Then you have Badge and McConnellCould Guehi fill in as emergency cover for a defensive midfielder if Grav is injured/tired/suspended? Never seen him play as a number 6, though.
When has Guehi played in MF? Both Trey and Endo can play #6 and I am sure are better MF than a CB. By playing Guehi as CDM you stop rotation. We have a squad depth thats unmatched when/if we get Isak, Guehi and Leoni. There is a question mark over Gravs cover and I would happily get rid of Endo for Garcia, but thats not gonna happen. So Slot trusts Endo enough to keep him so he has to use himI don’t know if Endo and Trey are trusted enough to start in this role if necessary. In defensive transitions, Guehi could drop in between VVD and Konate, which might suit him better than Mac Allister, who, on the other hand, is better in slightly more advanced areas of the pitch and more involved in the build-up.
Yeah, fair enough. For me, any midfield combo without Grav in the double pivot leaves us vulnerable defensively. That’s why Guehi came to mind as an emergency option in certain situations. No clue if he can actually do the job as I’ve never seen him play there. When has Guehi played in MF? Both Trey and Endo can play #6 and I am sure are better MF than a CB. I'd be willing to bet that a player of Guehi's intelligence and professionalism could do a job in that position if necessary, but it really would need to be an absolute last resort. We don't want to be squeezing square pegs into round holes unless it's a dire emergency.
If we thrashed Palace it would not have been discussed.Agreed, but the fact that it's even being discussed underlines the problem that position presents.
I've been hoping Bajcetic would be our guy over the years but latest rumours suggest he's off and even if he stays, it'll take him ages to get back up to match fitness and we won't want to push him too much (that's assuming Slot even rates him). That leaves no-one else but the current crop of guys everyone has already established can't quite do the job.
I think my view of Gravy NOT being a DM was based on not knowing he'd played that role at Ajax, then seeing him deployed otherwise for us and him not being the physically dominant type of DM (I'd kind of ruled out the chance that any other type of player could make it work).I think Slot had an idea about were to play Gravy given that he started his fair share of games as a DM for Ajax.
I was bitching for CDM for two seasons, @StevieM will tell you that. Its partly why I have a reputation on having meltdowns during transfer windows. Slot has decided to keep Endo who is happy being a bench option I would rather they traded Endo in and I have mentioned enough times my preferred choice but then I can't guarantee he will be happy as Endo with the limited game time.I don't think you can understate the importance of a top-drawer CM.
City's dominance has been built on Rodri. They were shite without him last season. Before him it was Fernandinho, and in the season when they mostly played him at centre-half, we won the league with Fabinho in that position.
N'Golo Kante won the league with fucking Leicester, and then repeated the trick with Chelsea.
Further back you have Makelele, Vieira, Keane. Arsenal were in the wilderness trying to replace Vieira, then Partey (ugh) and now Rice are doing that job for them, and they're better, but still not quite there.
All the title-winning teams have a strong DM.
Man United signed one of the best in the business in Casemiro and he should have been transformational, but it turns out his legs were gone. Unlucky. FLMAO.
We touched lucky last season when it turned out that was Gravy's position - who knew? He's not a pressing, tough-tackling monster in the mould of most of the guys I mentioned, he's a different beast, a classy player who does a lot with positioning and is great in transition, more Alonso than Mascherano / Momo. In that respect he's a bit old school, but he has the physicality if needed, it's just not his natural style.
On Sunday, we started the game without a DM. We played some great stuff for half an hour and then we struggled. That's not a coincidence.
Despite his limitations (which some on here have exaggerated IMO) Endo should start if Gravy doesn't. Mac can do a job there but he has the odd brain-fart in him - his tackling and interception work is best done further up the field where it's not so critical. Curtis is NOT a DM. He's a good-quality utility man, but he shouldn't play in such a critical position.
I think we're covered well enough with Gravy and Endo, but if we lose either one for a long period of time we will struggle. It's a calculated gamble, rather than buying in another player, and it's an appropriate one. Neither Gravy nor Endo were sick notes last season, it'll be a freak injury that would keep either of them out for a sustained period, and you just can't plan for that (which is what happened to City - Rodri was their Gravy, Kovacic their Endo). You just don't want Endo / Kovacic having to cover the whole season.
