Gettin’ Guehi with it

So what is going to happen in Jan? I think we would be prudent to spend money in Jan (and 'save' our season / get Guehi into the team as early as possible) than wait until the summer when other clubs can throw money and prestige at him.

If we watch him go to Bayern then its a complete fuck up on our part, he should be our starting CB this season and we fumbled it.

If he's got any sense, which he does seem to have, then he'll stay far away from our sinking, rat-infested ship

It would be stupid not to try. Our third choice centre back can't play more than 2 games in a row, and our current fourth choice centre back is a midfielder. We'll lose Konate and I suspect Gomez in the summer - though Gomez might stick around but it's madness to have him as either a second choice full back or one of the four centre back options given his fitness record - so reinforcing a position that needs improving at this point anyway is a no brainer.

Yeah, the City interest will force our hand here and we might move early. Will be interesting to see if he decides to join City. You'd think he would see more first team football with us.

As you said, we need to try. Desperately need a CB

He would definitely start for Konate imho. We could also explore playing 3 at the back in some games.

City might push hard for him if Gvardiol is out for months.

No player in their right mind, with a World Cup 4 months away would sign up to be part of Slot's Liverpool. Career suicide.
Nonsense. We are the champions, we are into the knockout stages of the CL and on track to be there again. We are super short at the back and he’s walk into the team.

City offer most of that, league champions in 4 of the last 5 seasons being the only difference

city could still win the league this year too

We are not an attractive prospect. We were. 6 months of bin fires have dampened that

Risk for most players at city is pep rotation. No fear of that with us. I just think we are still only at the tip of the iceberg for drastic failings at the club. We can't undo selling so many academy players and breaking the PL transfer record twice in one window as quickly as we managed to make those decisions.

For players looking at our club now, they know we are only 6 months away from having to transition away from Salah & Virgil (and soon Ali), meaning we lose 3 world class players in a very short amount of time. The transition period is going to be more drawn out than it needed it to be I fear.

The dog shagger is leaving in the summer so that’s not a problem. Even over the next 4 months he’d start there because of how light they are at the back.

We need full on investment throughout the squad despite last summer. A cluster fuck.

For players like Guehi he probably looks at Konate and VvD a couple of seasons away from moving on and thinks "there's a big opportunity there to become a fixture in the starting lineup". At City that's less likely. At Madrid not a chance.

It's also likely that both Pep and Slot will be gone at season's end so I feel the manager is less relevant to the long term equation.

With regard to players leaving (Mo., this Summer), VvD (2 years?), Ali (3 years)? That needs to be balanced with those coming in. It's certainly the opinion of a vocal few on SCM that Wirtz and Isak were a waste of money but that most certainly isn't the view of professionals, both ex (in the media everywhere) and current, where both are seen as top/world class.

You can add to those two (disregard current form): Szobo, Macca, Mama (who's looked great so GK seems to be covered) and Ekitike and that's a very high quality core of 7 starters (for the next 2 seasons), inc. VvD and Ali. A confident player will believe he can add to that and become the 8th and then believe we'll be in the market for more depth come the Summer.

So if players see us investing in (what in their opinion are) top class players they will have confidence that, regardless of our current woes, it will turn around and we'll be challenging for both PL & CL much sooner rather than later.

He’s a man of faith and keeping his word. Mark my words he’ll be a Liverpool player and if he comes in Jan he’ll be going to the WC as a starter and a CL winner!

Or the new players bed in and we win the league next year

Are we the same as the summer?

I don't think it's that different. We're still league champions, so even if we're not going to win it this year, we're more likely to win it next year than most. Are we more of a draw than City, no, but we weren't in the summer anyway. Are we more than Arsenal, not sure we were anyway, they will always have the London advantage. I don't think it's materially different tbh, and anyway, we've rarely been a team to sign the best of the best, this summer was an exception.
