Looks Like We Really Werner Sign Him...

Apparently we've opened formal negotiations with RBL for Timo Werner, with him telling them he wants to play for us.

His price, his age, & his continuing great stats this season make this a no brainer imo, & it's great to hear another massive prospect who could probably pick any club in the world wants us above all others.

Ill admit though, I've not seen him play bat the odd cl game. What's the feeling amongst those who have? Is he a good fit for us?

Can I just point out that anyone who "scouted" Karius (ie watched him play twice in the Bundesliga) and said he was great can fuck off.

It's also worth noting that quite a few of our recent signings who have settled in quickly have played some football in this country before joining us

Didnt he have an issue with playing in stadiums with to much "noise"? Not sure about where he'll fit in when we sign Mmmmmmmmmmmbappe either....

How often did you watch him then?

*Whistles*
There's going to be a lot more transfer activity to come, though.

Out of our lot, I'm most confident in Karius and Mane. The latter is going to score quite a few.

Yup I was sold short to, so I agree with your point.. Was it just the desperation in wanting A.N.Other keeper that wasn't Mingolet.. probably..

I know you're fucking stupid, but do I really have to repeat myself in every thread, every day?

I already stated several times that I was sooooo desperate to see the back of Mignolet that I had high hopes for karius, despite admitting REPEATEDLY that I had never, ever seen him play.

In fact, in the thread announcing his signing, all I did was voice concern that he seemed quite short, and apparently had a tendency to punch crosses, not catch them - according to an article I had read, but I wasn't sure because I HAD NEVER SEEN HIM PLAY.

Of course I was immediately shut down by the usual clappers who said he caught "99% of all crosses" or somesuch bollocks, and because he'd been voted second best keeper in Germany, I shouldn't worry.

I hope this clears it all up for you, and ensures we don't have to do this again, tomorrow.

He's not going to be expected to slot straight in imo.

Top teams are moving more into the strategy of buying replacement players a season or so before the player they're going to replace leaves, giving them time to bed into the side with less pressure to immediately perform.

Given their age & quality, it's hard to imagine all three of our front three still being here past summer 2021, so bringing Werner in the summer & using him regularly but not every major match would fit that strategy.

If we go all out for him in January then it won't be to try to secure the league this season, but to ensure we have a replacement lined up for either Mane or Salah, who'll leave in the summer, imo of course.

I don't know if he's willing to join and become a rotation player but for 35 mill we should do everything we can in order to sign him.

Mirror says Mancs will go hard to gazump us ...
$s / starting every game / Europa League next season vs rotation / less money / CL

Is there any truth to this figure, and if it did exist why didn't big clubs go for him in the summer? I would say even if it cost £83,000,001 to sign him, we should. The prem has so many more games than the Blundersliga, he will be happy to rotate

Because he just signed a contract and maybe promised them another year like Suarez basically did. Shows character.

Haven’t we had a number of threads on this lad going back years?

He can’t play in loud stadiums. Nailed on for City surely

I really like him. I like that he can play Firminos position, but also the lead in a 4231, which suits us nicely. He doesn't create much for himself and won't be a superstar, but he will be a very efficient goal scorer anywhere, especially in a side which creates chances for fun. We can't keep relying in the resilience of our front three. We saw Klopp's Dortmund team break down in his final year. With the resources we have we can safeguard against that. Werner would certainly be a good fit, IMO.

If we're going to rotate one of the front three with someone like that, we need to replace that creativity somewhere (midfield).

I will take the word of those of you who follow that league and in particular have seen games with this guy in it, the stats look very good, but apart from that - I think if we get him, it may help Keita get over his current shyness. I don't mean that in any bad way - just to be clear, but I think we may see Naby improve his game knowing he has one of his old pals playing with him.

He already has one though.

Christ, are we moving into that territory with fucking Noddy Keita now?

Stage 1: New, adjusting, pace of the league, language barrier etc. Will be a star!
Stage 2: Injured/ dropped
Stage 3: Second season, injury-free, easing him in. Will come good.
Stage 4: Plays with the stiffs in second-tier matches. Is not good.
Stage 5: Maybe we need a new formation that suits him? Buy him a mate he knows and has played with? ANYTHING FOR GOD'S SAKE.
Stage 6: Loan
Stage 7: Sold/ leaves on a free.

Would this work:

------------Werner
Mane----------------Salah
-----------Firmino

----K/W/H------- Fabinho

IMO no. Bobby is never as effective when he drops too far back, and a set-up like that would practically force him to do so.

Werner's a good player but I'm not convinced he's the player for us. If he's not up for a supporting role (at least for now) I'd be concerned that signing him might turn out to be a case of "fixing" what ain't broke. We do need to strengthen the squad, but we need to do it with signings which won't disrupt our ongoing development.

Re: moving to UNited, if he's willing to go to United instead of us, it shows a complete lack of ambition going to a lower club, in transition, for more money, and I frankly don't want the lad,

I'd like to note this as a historic statement. It's the first time in my adult life, I've ever said that

If Werner (or any other big price tag forward) comes then it's to bed him in to replace one of the front three when they go imo, not to be long term 4th choice or alternate forward, imo.

That's a shame, we need a viable and top quality attacking option to allow rotation of the front three and also have more ways of playing.
