Mad About Milner

What a hero of a man. As I said in the post match thread, he's probably my favourite player out of our current bunch. Ice cool from the penalty spot, playing out of position, a constant pro. Let's not forget he's also ensuring Moreno is kept out of the first team.

He sails into the upper echelons of our top 'free' transfer lists along with Marcus Babbel and Gary Mac.

Free put in inverted commas before Peterhague waltz in to tell us he wasn't free.

Some players would never accept being moved from midfield to defence. Just shows how great of a guy Milner is. Model professional.
Loved this move ever since it was announced. Knew he'd be a good signing.

The very definition of a model pro.

I love him, & he seems to love being here too.

Considering a big reason he moved here instead of staying at City was to play in his preferred position the fact he hasn't once complained about playing as a left back almost all season, & has always put a shift in is testament to his professionalism.

Ha great guy but this is by far the most important thing

I've always been a massive fan, he's been such a complete footballer for so long, all the attributes to be a captain and his reaction to woodburns goal showed as much last night.

Ive got to say, i was a little surprised at how happy he's been at left back given his comments about not liking being out-wide at city, I guess its overridden by the fact he's the most senior and likely unofficial leader of a team on the up and playing for a super charismatic guy. I dont think klopp could be any more removed from pellegrini in style , personality etc.

I was one of the 'is he a worthwhile signing' group but I have been sure for a long while now that I was wrong to be so. This wasn't a Kolo Toure style shite purchase - he fits the team's culture, attitudes and is a role model to a huge group of players, along with being a consistent high performer and frequent match winner.

I think he wanted to be central so he could be on the ball a lot more. Under klopp our full backs have the ball has much as our centre mids

He's been far better as a left back for us than CM, but I do wonder now that the team is settled under Klopp whether he'd excel in Can/Winny's position.
Hendo and Milner in the middle never produced much but now with Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino and Mane around them maybe that balance would produce the goods.
This is only if we get a new left back mind you. Just can't trust Moreno.

He's a great player, and has been brilliant for us, pretty much 'out of position'. I'd like to see how he does in a CM role if we bought a good LB. I don't see who he doesn't dislodge there out of the regular 3.
Him celebrating last night when Woodburn got his goal was brilliant.

Brilliant player, brilliant person. So versatile. Have wanted him since at Villa. Have liked him more than most of our players while he was still at City.

Top man.

He wonders around way too much to play deep, so don't think he'd be good there. Lallana's creativity keeps him in his position so his only realistic chance is in playing in place of Winny or Can.

I don't think Kolo is a good example of a poor purchase. Did a reasonable job for us and was encouraging of the younger players from what I hear.

Has anyone noticed Milner spends a lot of time on his arse? Whether it's falling back to dig out a cross, making tackles or just falling over after contesting a header, Milner regularly finds himself on the turf. I want someone to play the Milner Drinking Game (a no nonsense title for a no nonsense player) during our next game and report back. Live updates in the match thread would be appreciated.

There is only one rule, anytime Milner is on camera on his arse, you must drink. Let the games begin.

We're going to be completely arseholed in the next league cup game then.

The Leeds match was also a helpful reminder of how fucking dreadful Moreno is.

He's fucking awful that cunt.

Our Spain/Portugal scout should be thrown into a pit of hungry lions fired without compensation. Moreno, Aspas, Markovic and Luis Alberto all within a couple of years – none of them good enough or suitable to English football. This at a time when Spain and Portugal produced some of the greatest talents in the game, some of whom have been snapped up by our rivals.

Was total meh about bringing Milner to our team. Just never saw the point of adding a "boring" journeyman to the squad.
Am happy to admit that I was 100% wrong about him. Brilliant asset to the club.

Milner is not the best full-back – sometimes he gets passed by too easily or fails to block crosses because he tries to use his right peg when he should be using his left. But his experience and attitude are absolutely invaluable to this young team and it probably outweighs any small shortcomings to his game. Having no recognized LB other than Moreno is so far proving a blessing in disguise, because it allowed Milner to be in the first 11 consistently – which would not happen if his only route into the team was at CM. And the way Klopp likes his full-backs to play, he gets to see a lot of the ball and is just as influential as he would be in a CM position. So far it's good for him and for us.

Moreno shouldn't just be played in the under23s, he should be played at right back to make him think about his positional sense. He seems to be on his way to playing at right back already, seeing as how often during games he's loitering in the area when an opponent runs into space where he ought to be. Something needs to be done with the fool.

As for Milner, he's THE player the academy kids should be studying. He's an amazing pro.

The idea of playing Moreno at RB is potentially an excellent one and there's precedent to demonstrate that. Playing Magic on the left definitely helped him improve his positional sense, to the extent that he was arguably better (certainly defensively) over on that side. Years ago Carra was distinctly average, if that, at CB/RB till Houllier slotted him in at LB in an emergency and he blossomed.

I actually think Moreno could be better in attack cutting across into his left foot too. I'd like to see it given a try, I'm not sure why, despite him being a real calamity of a defender, I have a massive soft spot for Alberto, I'd love to see him make it here.

Not everyone will agree with us on this but I don't think liking Moreno is that hard to understand TBH. He clearly loves it here, he's said to be popular among the other players and he does offer real pace to go with his enthusiasm. His problem is that he seems to have the brains of a flea which, if true, is a huge handicap for coaches trying to improve him. But like you I still have hopes for him somehow.

I think he'll be sold this summer. That pace isnt enough to warrant a stay.
If we manage to get an upgrade like Kolesinac etc, then he's off.
