Rodrygo Goes to Popworld

Isak, Guehi and Rodrygo. I am guessing we would have to lose both Tsimi and Cheesy to make room for them (@StevieM you keep a tab on numbers, can you confirm we would have to sell two make room for two)

We currently have as OS players:
Ali
Marma
Kerkez
Robbo
Tsimi
Virgil
Ibou
Endo
Gravy
Mac
Dom
Wirtz
Gakkers
Ekitike
Mo
Cheesie

HG Players :
Woodman - AT
Bradley - CT
Frimp - AT
JoGo - CT
CJ - CT
Harvey - CT

Top U21’s not needing registered Fri EPL-
Leoni
Nyoni
Danns
Rio
McConnell

So, as it stands if we signed Isak & Rodrygo - we’d only have to move one player out, with Tsimikas being the obvious choice.

Guehi is HG, so no issues there - Wed still have room for one more HG player if we wanted and would also be able to meet the Association Trained criteria for Europe.

The two I’m not sure about for Europe are Leoni & Rio as neither have completed 2 years at the club and therefore can only play in Europe if registered - I presume Rio can be registered as one of the HG players in the squad of 25 - so he’d not be an issue, as we have spare AT spot.

Leoni is the problem - I think 🤔 be of the other OS players would have to miss out on Europe for him to play - and I’d be reluctant to do that - because it’d likely mean Cheesie or Endo who are more likely to be needed

The only thing selling Harvey does is mean we’ll be able be one short in the European squad as there isn’t really anyone to replace him that qualifies as Club Trained - Rhys Williams maybe, but I don’t see the point in that.

I think Harvey goes, either to Spurs or Palace for £40m+ . Honestly can't see us getting rodrygo when cheesy said he wants to fight for his place and to be fair he looks a lot of fitter, then again I am not Hughes and I have failed to guess any one of his transfer moves.
Its fucking exciting and scary... It looks like Slot wants to play more Klopp ball with high intensive attacks

Seems mad that we can have hardly any English players even in the squad and the homegrown rules are still barely even an issue. The rules are so lenient they might as well not be there.

The fee for Rodrygo sounds reasonable. The wages will be sticking point.

We've already swelled the wage bill and he's a big earner at Madrid. Hopefully he starts thinking his career at Madrid is on shaky ground. I do think he is the best option to move to if Isak doesn't come in. A loan with option to buy would be even better.

I honestly don't get why he would unless he has an international place at stake and that is of interest to him.

He's at one of THE iconic clubs in the world that many aspire to, leaving would be all downhill in that regard and that's a blow to many egos. He's on a massive wage that RM must pay for the length of his contract and enjoying life in a very liveable city. He played nearly 3,500 mins last season from 54 games where he got on the pitch (14 starts), that's a lot of mins no matter how it's composed.

We've had more than a few of these players from super sub Origi to Ox to Shaqiri etc. Squad players happy with their life and just to be part of the setup. Usually they'll move on when down to the last year of their contract (with the selling club paying part of the salary) or when it expires. Rodrygo's contract doesn't expire until June 2028 ! He could last longer than Alonso and come back into favour with a new manager.

A fair point. Really depends on what he wants. But early signs are he's not getting much of a look in with Alonso. Between Mbappe and Vinicus, he will never start on the left.

Oh I agree but as I said above - that may not bother him much considering the upsides of being at RM.

I think you underestimate how much faith Slot has in his Dutch boys.

Diaz started over gakpo a lot last year. and slot didn't particular rate diaz.

I like gakpo, as he has end product. He seems to lack the interplay that the rest of forwards love. Rodrygo doesnt. Thats where he excels

Rodrygo is soon to have Trent sulking next to him on tbe bench. That might be the tipping point!

Trents is getting absolutely slaughtered for his La Liga debut, in which he was hooked on 65 minutes, and there's already big calls to reinstate Carvajal even though he's half fit. Bless.
