Gettin’ Guehi with it

We should've just paid the money weeks ago. Not massively bothered though cos the need isn't desperate anyway. Probably get done in January.

Yeah, the deal sheet thing still allows Palace to call it off. Basically it allows clubs extra time to get the paperwork done where a deal is agreed, but it's still open to either club to not complete the paperwork. In reality, I expect it's all done bar the signatures and right now Parish and Glasner will be having a stand-off.
Reality is the player isn't going to kick off and as others have noted he's basically being shafted for being honourable.

Being a Yorkshireman (with a scouse dad before you ask!) I’m ok with this. No crisis and saving £@*m into the bargain

We've sat on this for 5 weeks and waited until the last minute, absolute shambles from Hughes.

Impressed with Glaser mind, he seems to have everyone at that club by their balls.

Was the money ever the issue? The clubs agreed a price, palace just didn't sign a replacement.
Yup, this could have been strategic by Palace - run it until the last minute then blame lack of replacement to pull the rug on the deal, rather than run the narrative they simply will not sell the player. Looks like the manager got his way anyhow.

I'm surprised that a short term loan involving Gomez to Palace wasn't mooted. Just to get them to January and for them to sort out a replacement. I think from our perspective then it would've been ok as Geuhi is hardly ever injured. I guess the problem with that would've been persuading Gomez to go there.

That's more my read of it tbh, seems like Palace told us wait until Europe qualification and the signings replaced, and they failed on the second part.

I really don't think we can fairly blame or insult their manager. Guehi is their Van Dijk. No manager is going to just stand by and let their best player and captain leave without a proper replacement lined up, especially not for a half-hearted Kabak like loan deal.

If Parish wanted the money, he should've accepted a deal earlier in the window and reinvested smartly. That way, both the manager and the player could've been kept happy. Now Palace have to navigate a risky January market with less money to play with or give up tens of millions entirely.

I'd be returning with £15m in Jan.

Medical done, goodbye video, wages, contract all in place and then the club fucks him.
Let’s grab him in Jan or for free next summer and then never deal with Glasner/Palace again.

If they wanted to do right by the player, they should offer him a new deal on wages similar to what he'd have got with us and with a reasonable release fee for next summer (say £20m).
Think Brighton did something similar with Mac Allister. Creates a fair outcome for everyone - the lad gets more cash, he can still get a good move next year and the club will still get a fee.

I’d agree if not for the fact that the manager has 10 months left on his contract and haven’t committed to the club.

Don’t think so. They can’t really afford to not take the money in these kind of situations. Possibly mitigation is that Eze sale makes the balance sheet look healthier. Guehi still wants to come to us and our “good relations” mean we are probably looking at a Jan 1st transfer

Oh my word. Cannot believe the amount of Modo agreeing I’m doing.

Keep it up 🤓

I'm guessing the replacement wouldn't have been an issue if we'd signed him weeks ago. And the reason we didn't do that was we wanted to push the fee as low as possible by dragging it out and making them desperate.

Exactly, Parish wanted to sell. No way he'd take £15 mill less in Jan.
