Gettin’ Guehi with it

The mad thing here is that in Summer we will end up paying more than this for a lesser player.
Young, English, top drawer performer, good attitude, good injury record, a leader and Premier League proven. City have themselves a bargain.
Well, I think we tried to get him, then were gazumped. It doesn't mean we're in the wrong, but if we don't buy anyone else fuck feeling sorry for being outmaneouvred.

We were looking for the perfect 6 for like 3 years.

He’s a man of faith and keeping his word. Mark my words he’ll be a Liverpool player and if he comes in Jan he’ll be going to the WC as a starter and a CL winner!

The big sell of Guehi - aside from the contract situation - was the fact that he's English.

It's disappointing, particularly in the wider context of our situation, but there are other great defenders we can buy.

The question is whether the data nerds can pick one and actually get it done.

I agree. My main gripe is that we clearly wanted him. I think he would look a different player in our back 4 to Palace's back 5.

The English angle is important too as we need to ensure we have a core of our team that is homegrown and he would have ticked that box.

Oh no, we don't get guehi. A defender nobody will remember in 20 years.

Let's buy another one instead.
Its not the name per-se.

Its the fact we desperately need at least 2 first team CBs.

One now and one in the summer would have been the ideal scenario in terms of settling in.

Is £300k too much? How much is virgil on.. thats your answer.

How much is Konate demanding? Thats your answer.

We are just tight fisted.

Guehi should've been wrapped up early doors in the summer instead of fucking about on deadline day.
£85m for Semenyo and Guehi is brilliant business.
Yet we went balls deep for a striker we didn’t need and cost 50% more than those two.

300k per week, 30 mill fee and a sign on fee worth north of 10 mill £ appaz, 5,5 year contract.
Appaz its a deal that will cost City 125-130 mill £ in total.

I can see why we didnt want to do it. But it doesn't hide the fact that we should have got this wrapped up in the summer. That was extremely poor by the club. Not signing him now I can understand given the financial package that City put together.

125 mill £ isnt a bargain, but agree with everything else. Its a great signing for them.

The necessary would have been one last summer. The past due was one now. The insanely negligent is two this summer.

over a 3 year deal paying 30m for him and 300k a week is similar to paying 60m and 100k. i’m sure that’s how city have looked at this internally, he’s a 60m player in january when they need one and he’s english.

We really didn't, mate. We had a bid accepted by Palace which they then rescinded on deadline day because Glasner threatened to walk - which makes the fact that he's now said he's off in the summer anyway infuriating.

Yes, we did. If you leave things until the very last moment, there’s a chance it will go wrong.

If this is the player they wanted, get it done as soon as possible. The spreadsheet boys messed up

It's pretty simple.

We fucked around over 5mil to get this done early in the summer. Played low ball, and now how much is it gonna cost us? Its hard to fathom.

Pathetic.

The decision making here is beyond belief.

Waiting for them to pull something out of the hat to make this all make sense...

Not gonna happen is it?

Fuckwits.

I'm trying to organise a dirty protest on the sixth minute because that's his shirt number. Everyone in the ground, on exactly the sixth minute, shit your pants.

Couldn’t agree more.

~18 mths ago, Crystal Palace rejected Newcastle's bid of £65m for Guehi (since then, he has won the FA Cup (and Community Shield) and helped Crystal Palace qualify for Europe for the first time in their history).

At around 25, he’s set to be a mainstay in their defence, alongside Gvardiol, who’s only about 24. Even without the injury crisis at CB, they would eventually need to replace Dias (29 this year) and Stones (turning 32), with Ake (who is homegrown) likely to leave after this season. He would also offer tactical flexibility — allowing them to switch to a back three or move Gvardiol to left-back when necessary.

Players in a similar bracket in terms of age, experience and ability who might be attainable are probably Schlotterbeck and Bastoni. However, there’s no guarantee they would adapt and perform to the same level in England — especially the latter. In that sense, it’s somewhat similar to the lack of quality, top-level striker options situation.

They have seized the opportunity to strengthen — especially when both Semenyo and Guehi are homegrown — while simultaneously depriving rivals of a strong option, in some way like the Arsenal–Zubimendi situation.

Sorry but this doesn't make sense. Palace accepted our bid. The reason the deal didn't go through is that their manager wouldn't wear it because it would have left him short of CBs and they decided keeping the manager was more important than trousering the cash. That would have been equally true earlier in the summer.

Allowing for all addons, City signed Guehi, Semenyo and Cherki for ~£7m more then we paid for Wirtz.

It's the kind of efficient business that wins titles. The kind we used to do. We're going to need some equally efficient spending in the coming years to get where we need to be.

I'm not overly arsed by Guehi, but we do need to find a good CB, and soon.

Man, people just don't want to hear that.

At least compare it to Isak rather than wirtz. Isak looks a complete waste of money and doesn't fit the system.
